    Job Description: Provides direct and indirect patient care services that meet the psychosocial, physical and general aspects of care; meets the communication needs of patient an family; provides care that reflects initiative and responsibility indicative of professional expectations, under the supervision of a medical provider or registered nurse. Maintains regulatory agency requirements, nursing and clinic policies, procedures, and standards.

    Core Responsibilities

    Clinical Functions
    1. Performs Clinic LPN functions including, but not limited to: injections, triage, blood draws and appropriate processing of labs, urine tests, blood pressure and vital signs, Oxygen sat monitoring, drug renewals.
    2. Performs patient care pertinent to patient's presenting complaint including but not limited to: disrobing, application of cardiac monitor, oxygen, dressing applications under the direction and supervision of the Clinic Medical Providers.
    3. Assists provider with numerous patient care including but not limited to: lifting, supporting, and holding extremities for splint/cast application; set-up for exams such as suturing, pelvic exams, foreign body removal, and eye exam.
    4. Assists with radiological exams for chest and extremity x-rays, as needed.
    5. Coordinates indigent program. Calls drug companies for applications, authorization and/or qualification for programs. Assists patients with completing applications, mailing or faxing applications and distributing/dispensing medications and/or samples under direction of the Clinic Medical Providers.
    6. Assists Provider with emergencies including but not limited to obtaining patient history, vital signs, Oxygen administration, administration of medications (PO, IM or IV), starting a peripheral IV line, basic life support measures, within the LPN scope of practice.
    7. Provides teaching to patients and families including but not limited to diabetic education (diet, monitoring blood sugar via finger sticks, S&S of hypo and hyperglycemia), Reduced calorie diet planning, side effects of, and appropriate medication administration, give and discuss handouts on numerous medical conditions and problems, mail education handouts and low fat low cholesterol diet plans to patients.
    Clerical Functions
    1. Schedules follow up appointments, mails reminder letters for follow ups and schedules referral appointments and special procedures.
    2. Participates in effective communication and collaboration with inter/intra-hospital physicians, nurses and other members of the health care team, including, but not limited to the CMC physician, nursing and admissions staff, laboratory, pharmacy, materials management, etc.
    3. Demonstrates ability to work effectively with patients, families and professional and support personnel who provide patient care.
    4. Recognizes and uses appropriate channels to communicate situations of concern involving patients, family members, physicians or other staff members.
    5. Tracks supply levels and orders supplies when appropriate.
    6. Monitors all medications for expiration dates, discards and reorders medications as needed, maintains records on temperature of medication refrigerator/freezer, glucometer controls and logbook, narcotic administration lock/count.
    Maintains effective communications.
    1. Promotes positive work climate.
    2. Communicates with providers and other care team members.
    3. Strives to problem solve conflicts by using proper communication channels and chain of command.
    Provides for optimal patient/resident safety.
    1. Follows all facility protocols and policies.
    2. Responds appropriately to emergency situations.
    3. Performs any routine or emergency check lists established in the clinical area.
    4. Participates in committees and projects that contribute to patient safety.
    5. Readily suggests process improvements aimed at refining patient safety.
    Respects patient's rights to privacy and dignity.
    1. Observes all aspects of HIPPA in protecting patient/resident information and reports concerns for breeches.
    2. Champions projects related to patient environmental concerns and needs.

    Qualifications

    Required:
    • Licensed nurse (LPN or MA) in State of Idaho
    • BLS
