    Job Description and Duties

    PARK AIDE (SEASONAL) – SIERRA DISTRICT / LAKE TAHOE SECTOR

    Priority consideration will be given to any person receiving State public assistance under the CalWORKS program. Applicants who receive State public assistance need to identify their status as a CalWORKS recipient in the comments area on the application. Applicants must submit a verification of their CalWORKS eligibility status, which may include the most recent Notice of Action showing TANF eligibility or a copy of your last aid check stub. If verification is not submitted with the application, the application will not be processed. (Applicants may obtain verification from the CalWORKS program).

    The reporting locations for this position are Donner Memorial State Park in Nevada County and Kings Beach State Recreation Area in Placer County. This position will work under the supervision of the Supervising Ranger and AOI.

    This position works under the supervision of the Administrative Officer I and Supervising Ranger. Applicants must be available on holidays and weekends. A uniform is required. Duties include working with the public, staffing park entrance stations, checking in campers, cash handling, providing information to visitors, interpreting trail maps, reporting public safety issues, and answering phone calls from the public. Desirable abilities include Communicating effectively with co-workers and visitors; multi-tasking in a fast-paced, public contact setting; following directions; operating a point-of-sale system, good customer service skills; performing arithmetic while handling money; preparing written and computer-generated accounting documents.

    This position is seasonal. The season is from mid-May to mid-September with some positions beginning in June. Interviews will be conducted February to April.

    Applicants must have a positive attitude, willingness to learn, and the ability to do basic accounting for collected fees. Additionally, applicants must have the ability to follow directions, learn work procedures and park rules, and interact positively with the public. This Park Aide position may work weekends, holidays, and special events on a regular basis.

    We do require Live Scans. The selected candidate is required to submit to a background investigation process utilizing Live Scan fingerprinting prior to appointment.

    This position requires a valid driver's license. You must answer the questions addressing your driver's license on your application. Ensure you provide your driver's license number, class, expiration date, and any endorsements and/or restrictions on your application.
