    PRIMARY FUNCTION:

    Under the supervision of the Anesthesia Technician Supervisor/Coordinator, CRNA, and/or Anesthesiologist involved with all surgical cases, the Anesthesia Lead Technician oversees supporting the anesthesiologists and nurse anesthetists with patient care tasks, staff assignments, facilitation of caregiver education, recruitment, and retention strategies, in addition to supply and equipment maintenance.

    PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
    • Serves as liaison and resource for staff and customers regarding room setups, equipment repairs and sterilization, supply availability, and pediatric cases.
    • Partners with Periop NPDS to identify and support educational needs and in-service planning.
    • Ensures department coverage as PTO, leave, call-off, low census or other extenuating circumstances occur.
    • Participates in the Quarterly Performance Review, Merit and Human Resource discussions.
    • Assigns resources for operating room and non-operating room locations based upon the daily schedule.
    • Facilitates survey readiness operational needs aligned to the anesthesia technician standard work duties.
    • Participates in annual and monthly capital and operational budget planning meetings to ensure resource stewardship.
    • Continuously monitors the OR schedule and sets his or her priorities for room and case assignments.
    • Organizes, manages, and meets deadlines for the tasks to be performed.
    • Participates in the Christiana Care Health System Focus on Excellence programs and departmental performance improvement issues.
    • Sets up various monitors and prepares IVs sets.
    • Reviews and interprets the surgical schedule, determining equipment and supply needs for each case.
    • Equips rooms with monitoring modules, fiberoptic scopes, A-lines, and Belmont Rapid infuser as instructed by the CRNA/anesthesiologist.
    • Performs basic mechanics involved in the preparation of the anesthesia machines and monitors associated with patient care.
    • Troubleshoots problems and arranges appropriate technical repair services if needed.
    • Maintains consistent contact with anesthesia personnel working in the designated area on a regular basis to stay informed.
    • Uses established guidelines and assists the anesthesiologists and CRNA staff with various invasive techniques.
    • Assists anesthesiologists and CRNA staff with the positioning and support of patients undergoing regional anesthesia procedures.
    • Follows a regular schedule of proper maintenance of monitors used to administer anesthesia.
    • Follows Anesthesiologist/CRNA instructions and responds to emergency situations.
    • Prepares equipment for the transfer of patients to the PACU or ICU.
    • Assists the anesthesiologist and CRNA staff in the transfer of the post-op patient to the PACU and ICU.
    • Performs assigned work safely, adhering to safety rules and practices.
    • Report unsafe activities, conditions, hazards, or safety violations that may cause injury.
    • Completes mandatory in-service education programs.
    • Performs other duties as required.
    SCOPE, PURPOSE, AND FREQUENCY OF CONTACTS:

    Frequent contact with nursing staff, patients, families, visitors, medical/dental staff, ancillary staff, students, community agencies, vendors, staff from other hospitals, and public.

    • Anesthesia Technician Manager
    • Anesthesia Care Provider
    EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:
    • High School Graduate or Equivalent
    • Associate or bachelor's degree preferred.
    • Minimum three years Anesthesia Technician Experience
    • Prior experience in a Lead, Charge or Supervisory role preferred.
    KNOWLEDGE, SKILL, AND ABILITY REQUIREMENTS:
    • Demonstrates knowledge of operating room/anesthesia supplies, equipment, and instrumentation.
    • Demonstrates knowledge of appropriate chain of command.
    • Demonstrates knowledge of CCHS Core Values and departmental policies/procedures.
    • Demonstrates computer skills and the ability to utilize various software applications.
    • Demonstrates ability to trouble-shoot technical issues effectively.
    • Demonstrates excellent interpersonal skills by effectively dealing with/managing others at a variety of levels with diplomacy and tact.
    • Demonstrates safe and accurate skills in the use of telephone paging system.
    • Adapts to a high volume, high stress area.
    • Organize work while managing multiple tasks.
    • Communicates efficiently and effectively in both written and verbal form.
    • Works independently with established guidelines.
    • Maintains confidentiality of patient medical records, hospital staff, physician, and administrative matters.
    • Performs required technical skills as outlined in procedures.
    • Follows standard precautions and uses appropriate safety measures for patients, coworkers, and self.
    SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:

    BCLS certification

    PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

    Ability to stand, walk, sit, bend, lift, carry, reach, twist, handle, stoop, and climb as per unit based physical demands checklist.

    WORKING CONDITIONS:

    Frequent exposure to biological and environmental elements with occasional exposure to chemical elements as per unit based Physical Demands Checklist.
