    Description
Are you seeking opportunities to innovate as a mechanical engineer?

Do you have an interest in leveraging advanced manufacturing (AM) for next generation maritime systems?

Do you thrive in a dynamic, creative, and collaborative environment?

You will be joining a team of hardworking and dedicated engineers developing cutting edge systems for our nation's warfighters.

We are seeking a Mechanical or Materials Engineer to help us perform full lifecycle development using advanced manufacturing techniques and systems - to include the design, modeling, fabrication, integration, testing, and evaluation.

As an Advanced Manufacturing (AM) Engineer your primary responsibilities will include...
The design of mechanical systems using AM tools, CAD, and other modeling and design tools as needed.
Leading AM projects with diverse teams across the lab.
Conducting simulation, analysis, and testing of systems fabricated using AM.

Preparing for and conducting periodic design reviews, as well as generating technical reports, data packages, and briefing materials delivered to all levels of staff and Government agencies.

Participating in the installation, testing, and maintenance of systems onboard manned and unmanned Navy platforms, and shore installations.
Working closely with JHU/APL subject-matter experts, electrical engineers, fabrication shops, systems engineers, and external vendors.

Have a BS degree in Mechanical, Material Science, Ocean Engineering, Naval Architecture, Aerospace, or related fields.
Have 3 or more years of relevant experience developing and building AM-fabricated projects.
Have experience with various AM technologies, ranging from desktop machines to industrial manufacturing facilities.

Have experience with CAD (SolidWorks, CREO, or other design packages), stress and thermal analysis using finite element or physics-based software, and/or topology optimization software.

Are able to develop new skills to support novel engineering efforts.

Are able to effectively work and communicate orally and in writing with other engineers, scientists, and technicians as a member of an inclusive and diverse multidisciplinary team.

Are able to obtain an Interim Secret level security clearance by your start date and can ultimately obtain a Secret level clearance.

If selected, you will be subject to a government security clearance investigation and must meet the requirements for access to classified information.

An MS or PhD in Mechanical, Materials, Industrial or Ocean Engineering, Naval Architecture, Aerospace, or a related field.
Experience with design, modeling, and fabrication of AM components or complex systems.
Experience with nTop, MATLAB, Python, or other engineering design software packages.
Experience with the NAVSEA, or other detailed, technical data packages for government organizations.
Experience leading diverse and inclusive project teams.
An active Top Secret level security clearance.

Our employees enjoy generous benefits, including a robust education assistance program, unparalleled retirement contributions, and a healthy work/life balance.

All qualified applicants will receive consideration for employment without regard to race, creed, color, religion, sex, gender identity or expression, sexual orientation, national origin, age, physical or mental disability, genetic information, veteran status, occupation, marital or familial status, political opinion, personal appearance, or any other characteristic protected by applicable law.
