    Summary of Duties and Responsibilities:
    Assists medical providers with patient examinations, pre-visit questions and or with treatments as directed by the provider.

    Primary Duties and Responsibilities:
    Calls patient to the appropriate location for pre-examination information gathering.


    Accurately measures and records information:
    height, weight, respiration, pulse, blood pressure, temperature add peak expiratory flow rate, SpO2 and head circumference. Record all measurements and information gathered in patients' electronic medical record. Notes chief complaint in electronic medical record. Gives injections under Provider's direction. Gives immunizations under Provider's direction, follow-up, update OSIIS record appropriately and immunization information COCASA system (data entry). Prepares and restocks supplies in each examination room daily. Prepares examining rooms for subsequent patient. Assists physician in physical exams as directed.

    Assists with treatments, such as removal of toenail, preparation of breathing treatments, and other designated treatments needed by the provider.

    Disposes of contaminated items according to VARIETY CARE policy. Follows "Universal Precautions" for safety regulations, uses PPE as task on hand requires. Answers simple patient questions over the telephone and documents in electronic medical record. Orders supplies from purchasing department as needed. Obtains current CPR certificate and checks Emergency equipment monthly. Draws blood for lab, prepares paperwork and keeps Log in electronic medical records. Follows HIPAA guidelines and VARIETY CARE policy and procedures as it relates to privacy. Arranges for referrals outside Variety Care, as requested by the provider. Advises patient accordingly. Answers questions regarding the referral. Assist with medical emergencies as directed by provider. Other duties as assigned.

    Qualifications

    Education, Work Experience and Specialized Skills/Knowledge:
    High School Diploma or GED. Medical Assistant Certificate from an accredited program. Demonstrates ability to obtain and record accurate information. Ability to use or willing to learn electronic medical records software. Knowledge of basic computer skills including data entry and typing.

    Demonstrates, to the satisfaction of the licensed provider, an ability to perform tasks, administer medications and injections, has knowledge of instrumentation used in lab point of care testing, as directed.

    Able to effectively communicate with the patient population. Able to maintain confidentiality of information. Able to work in a multi-faceted, fast paced environment. Bilingual (English/Spanish) required. Previous clinic or primary practice experience preferred.


    ADA Requirements:
    Able to lift at least 25 pounds. Able to assist patients on to and off of exam table when asked or directed.
