    $18.18/Hr *If you are a PSCC Student and eligible for the Student Employment Program, you will be paid on experience and the rates are $13.00 (no experience), $ months experience) and $ months experience)* Work Hours: 20-25 hours per week

    Position Summary:

    Under the supervision of the Director of Student Care and Advocacy, the Garden Specialist is responsible for developing and executing a planting, maintenance, harvesting and distribution plan for the garden.

    This position insures that fresh fruits & vegetables from the Harden Valley Garden(s) are harvested, washed, weighed, packed and distributed to the Pellissippi Pantry.

    The role recruits, trains, schedules, tracks and evaluates volunteers; supervises students' workers; works collaboratively with faculty to create diverse experiential learning opportunities for students-serving as the key contact for experiential opportunities with regards to the Hardin Valley Garden; partners with other campus and community resources as needed and works with administrators to create and implement a sustainability plan.


    Duties and Responsibilities:
    50% Garden Care & Operations a. Develop and execute a planting and harvesting planb. Prepare, plant, irrigate, cultivate, weed, etc.c. Harvest, wash, weighing and pack cropsd. Maintain materials, supplies, and tools related to gardeninge. Deliver produce to Pellissippi Pantry and other approved locations 40% Administrative Dutiesa. Create and/or regularly update Garden Operations Manualb. Maintain records of all garden seeding, planting, production, harvesting, donations, and sales c. Recruit, train, schedule, manage, track, and evaluate volunteersd. Recruit, train, schedule, manage, track, and evaluate student workerse. Establish key metrics and maintain a dataset f. Generate reports utilizing Microsoft Office products (e.g., Excel)g. In collaboration with administrators, create and implement a sustainability planh. Maintain an inventory of tools and suppliesi. Ensure garden facilities adhere to safety recordsj. Partner with campus and community resourcesUtilize social media platforms to share information about Hardin Valley Garden 10% 3. Educational Programminga. Collaborate with faculty and staff to create experiential learning opportunitiesb. Oversee and coordinate students' hands on experience in the garden (Planting, tending, harvesting, etc.)c. Provide classroom & community presentations upon requestd. Participate in college & community events such as resource fairs, health fairs etc.

    Required Qualifications:

    • Minimum of 1 year of community gardening and/or farming experience in Tennessee
    • Minimum of 3 months volunteer and/or part-time employee management experience (Part-time work experience is calculated at 50% credit of full-time work experience)
