    Summary

    Contract Buy Out Program:

    This position may be eligible for the Physician / Provider Contract Buy Out Program (CBOP), which authorizes VHA to buy out service contracts (Locum agreements, loan repayments, sign-on bonus contracts, Physician-owned practices) in exchange for employment at certain rural or highly rural facilities for a period of obligated service (minimum 4 years).

    Applicants pending the completion of educational or certification/licensure requirements may be referred and tentatively selected but may not be hired until all requirements are met.


    Basic Requirements:

    United States Citizenship:
    Non-citizens may only be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA Policy


    • Degree of doctor of medicine or an equivalent degree resulting from a course of education in medicine or osteopathic medicine
    • The degree must have been obtained from one of the schools approved by the Department of Veterans Affairs for the year in which the course of study was completed
    • Current, full and unrestricted license to practice medicine or surgery in a State, Territory, or Commonwealth of the United States, or in the District of Columbia
    • Completion of residency training, or its equivalent, approved by the Secretary of Veterans Affairs in an accredited core specialty training program leading to eligibility for board certification
    • Proficiency in spoken and written English

    Position is primarily sedentary in an office setting.

    Duties
    "This is an OPEN CONTINUOUS ANNOUNCEMENT to establish an applicant pool to fill vacancies more quickly as they occur.
    Eligible applications will be reviewed for consideration as vacancies occur.
    The initial cut-off date for referral of eligible applications will be 09/30/2023.

    Eligible applications received after that date will be referred at regular intervals or as additional vacancies occur on an as-needed basis until position(s) are filled.

    The incumbent spends at least 80% of time in clinic answering consults for outpatient vascular medicine care and providing follow-up care as needed.

    The remainder of the time is spent reading and reporting of vascular studies.
    The remainder of the time is spent answering inpatient and ED consults.

    The incumbent establishes professional working relationships with clinical service providers within the medical center and the Community Base Outpatient Clinics (CBOCs), providing telephone and curbside consultation as needed and screening consults that are received for appropriateness prior to scheduling.

    Vascular Specialist Providing outpatient, inpatient and ED care for patients that vascular consults are placed on Evaluating patients to determine need for further care Prescribing medications within defined scope of practice and conducting medication reconciliation Ordering diagnostic studies such as laboratory tests, x-rays, vascular studies Ordering vascular studies which include carotid duplex, arterial duplex (upper and lower limbs), venous duplex study as well as standing upper and lower limbs venous duplex studies, abdominal aorta duplex, renal artery duplex, mesenteric artery duplex, standing lower limb venous duplex study for reflux and transcranial duplex if necessary Carrying out health promotion and disease prevention activities Initiating and expediting requests for consultation intra-facility, inter-facility, and FEE basis care, and scheduling special tests and studies Dictating notes on clinic visits and procedures Providing education and counseling of patients and families in preventive care, medical conditions, and use of prescribed treatments and drugs Conducting Compensation and Pension (C&P) Exams as requested by Veterans Benefit Administration (VBA) and Regional Office Assists in meeting Performance Measures for clinical care as indicated by yearly updates Completes all mandatory training requirements timely.
