    Clinical Psychologist at Martinsburg VA Medical Center's - Primary Care Mental Health Integration (PC-MHI)

    Up to $200K Graduate School Loan repayment program - Excellent Benefits/Great Work-Life Balance

    This position is at VA Medical Center in Martinsburg, WV. Our catchment ara includes West Virginia, Western Maryland, Southern Western Pennsylvania, and Northern Virginia. We provide care to veterans from a wide variety of socioeconomic, multicultural, and educational backgrounds. Martinsburg VA Medical Center comprises the main medical campus in Martinsburg and seven Community Based Outpatient Centers. We have the second-largest domiciliary program in the nation that addresses homelessness, substance abuse, and PTSD. Our psychology division has an accredited APA internship. Psychologists are in leadership positions through the hospital and there are many excellent opportunities to grow into leadership.

    The PC-MHI Psychologist provides a full range of psycho-diagnostic services, including assessment and using the most appropriate psychotherapeutic techniques in providing quality care; provides direct patient contact including psychological assessment and treatment planning, psychotherapy/assessment sessions, family/caregiver stress therapy sessions. Our Psychologists perform evaluations for veterans with a variety of psychological disorders.

    Basic Requirements

  • US Citizens will be considered first; Non-citizens may only be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA Policy.
  • Designated and/or random drug testing may be required
  • Selective Service Registration is required for males born after 12/31/1959.
  • You may be required to serve a probationary period.
  • Subject to a background/security investigation

  • Selected applicants will be required to complete an online onboarding process.Education Requirements:
    Have a doctoral degree in psychology from a graduate program in psychology accredited by the American Psychological Association (APA), the Psychological Clinical Science Accreditation System(PCSAS), or the Canadian Psychological Association (CPA) at the time the program was completed. The specialty area of the degree must be consistent with the assignment for which the applicant is to be employed. OR
    Have a doctoral degree in any area of psychology and, in addition, successfully complete a re-specialization program (including documentation of an approved internship completed as part of the re-specialization program) meeting the following conditions:

    (a) The re-specialization program must be completed in an APA or a CPA accredited doctoral program; and,

    (b) the specialty in which the applicant is retrained must be consistent with the assignment for which the applicant is to be employed. OR

    Have a doctoral degree awarded between 1951 and 1978 from a regionally-accredited institution, with a dissertation primarily psychological in nature.

    Internships

    Have successfully completed a professional psychology internship training program that was accredited by APA or CPA at the time the program was completed and that is consistent with the assignment for which the applicant is to be employed. OR

    New Veterans Health Administration (VHA) psychology internship programs that are in the process of applying for APA accreditation are acceptable in fulfillment of the internship requirement, provided that such programs were sanctioned by the VHA Central Office Program Director for Psychology and the VHA Office of Academic Affiliations; OR

    VHA facilities that offered full-time, one-year pre-doctoral internships prior to PL pre-1979) are considered to be acceptable in fulfillment of the internship requirement; OR

    Applicants who completed an internship that was not accredited by APA or CPA at the time the program was completed may be considered eligible for hire only if they are currently board certified by the American Board of Professional Psychology in a specialty area that is consistent with the assignment for which the applicant is to be employed. OR

    Applicants who have a doctoral degree awarded between 1951 and 1978 from a regionally accredited institution with a dissertation primarily psychological in nature may fulfill this internship requirement by having the equivalent of a one-year supervised internship experience at a site specifically acceptable to the candidate's doctoral program.

    Licensure. Hold a full, current, and unrestricted license to practice psychology at the doctoral level in a State, Territory, or Commonwealth of the United States, or the District of Columbia. Exception: Non-licensed applicants who otherwise meet the eligibility requirements may be given a temporary appointment as a /'graduate psychologist/' a for a period not to exceed two years from the date of employment on the condition that such a psychologist provide care only under the supervision of a psychologist who is licensed. Failure to obtain licensure during that period is justification for termination of the temporary appointment.

    Board Certification. Persons hired to psychology positions in the VHA who completed an internship that was not accredited at the time the program was completed must be board certified by the American Board of Professional Psychology in a specialty area that is consistent with the assignment for which the applicant is to be employed. The board certificate must be current, and the applicant must abide by the certifying body's requirement for continuing education.

    Work Schedule: 8 am - 4:30 pm M-F ; potentially 1-2 days telework per pay period at Supervisor Discretion.

    Major Clinical Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

    1. Provides comprehensive psychological assessment and diagnostic services for veterans with a broad range of psychopathology receiving care, including services for patients with complex psychopathology requiring advanced psycho-diagnostic skills.
    2. Demonstrates expertise in using contemporary interview and psychometric assessment methods for mental disorders and/or behavioral health conditions.
    3. Provides education to patients and family members regarding mental disorders and best practices approaches to treatment.
    4. Provides evidence-based psychotherapeutic interventions as indicated and appropriate for the specific job setting and duties of the Psychologist, which may include individual, family, and group psychotherapy and psychoeducation.
    5. Provides consultation to health care providers about assessment findings and treatment plans for patients to ensure that care is coordinated, collaborative, and integrated within the Martinsburg VA Medical Center footprint.
    6. Develops, implements, and documents the mental health treatment plan for an assigned caseload of patients, as indicated and appropriate for the specific job setting and duties of the Psychologist.
    7. Complies with all Mental Health Service documentation requirements, including standards for timely completion of CPRS patient contact notes, use of required documentation templates, clinical reminders, treatment plans, and risk assessment protocols.
    8. Adheres to all MVAMC and MHS policies and practices for delivering clinical care, including but not limited to risk assessment and reduction practices for potentially dangerous behavior (suicide and violence), timeliness of care and access standards, professional conduct requirements, and CPRS documentation conventions.
    9. Achieves minimal clinical workload expectations as established by MHS Leadership.
