    Internal Medicine is a department within the Division of Heath Sciences and Brody School of Medicine at East Carolina University.

    The Department of Internal Medicine is comprised of ten divisions with over 85 full time faculty and 150 support staff members.

    Each of the divisions has its own specialty clinic.

    Internal Medicine is home to seven fellowships and two residency programs.

    In recent years collaboration and funding have come from many national recognized organizations such as the National Institutes of Health, Health Resources and Service Administration, American Heart Association, NC Department of Human Health and Human Service.

    More locally, we have partnered with Vidant Medical Center Foundation, Kate B. Reynolds Charitable Trust, North Carolina Biotechnology Center, and the Pitt County Health Department. Additionally, Internal Medicine participates in many pharmaceutical sponsored clinical trials.


    We collaborate with Department of Pediatrics, the Department of Surgery, and the Department of Cardiovascular Sciences within the Brody School of Medicine.

    The Department of Internal Medicine has a close affiliation with Vidant Medical Center and serves a diverse population in eastern North Carolina.

    Vidant Medical Center, a 974-bed tertiary care teaching facility, serves as the primary teaching and clinical care venue for an integrated nine hospital hub and spoke system.


    The Division of Pulmonary, Critical Care, and Sleep Medicine has an active outpatient pulmonary and sleep practice, in-patient consult service and interventional bronchoscopy capability which includes EBUS and navigational bronchoscopy.

    The Division of Pulmonary, Critical Care, and Sleep Medicine provides services to patients in the MICU, CVICU and NICU.


    The fellowship training program in the Division of Pulmonary, Critical Care, and Sleep Medicine has expanded from four to sixteens fellows.

    The Brody School of Medicine is affiliated with Vidant Medical Center.

    VMC is a level 1 trauma center and has been ranked one of the top 50 teaching hospitals in the United States.

    Job Duties


    The Division of Pulmonary, Critical Care and Sleep Medicine at East Carolina University seeks a physician whose primary focus is outpatient pulmonary and sleep medicine.

    This individual will be actively involved in the training of medical students, residents and fellows.

    The successful candidate will join our academic group at a rank commensurate with qualifications; tenure track or fixed-term appointment available at the rank/title of Assistant Professor or higher.

    This is a flexible position which allows for participation in other academic, research and clinical pursuits.

    The Division is clinically productive, highly respected and actively involved in the training of medical students, residents and pulmonary/critical care fellows through our affiliation with a single 974-bed tertiary care hospital.


    Division expansion is fueled by growth of the medical complex and added emphasis on translational research, including a large clinical base and a lung biology group.

    Minimum Education/Experience

    MD or DO from an appropriately accredited institution

    License or Certification Required by Statute or Regulation

    A current North Carolina medical license is required.

    Preferred Experience, Skills, Training/Education

    Board Certified in Internal Medicine, Pulmonary and Critical Care.
