    Job Description:

    The Flight Nurse demonstrates advanced critical thinking capabilities in working autonomously and in collaboration with other health care providers in the delivery of care to critically ill patients in diverse and non-traditional settings.

    This position is located in our Page and Fort Mohave, Arizona air bases

    Salary is dependent upon experience

    The Flight Nurse is actively involved in assisting and training and continuing education of medical crew members.

    The Flight Nurse is required to make the decisions for care and appropriate patient destination in conjunction with Flight Nurse or Paramedic partner while in flight and during patient contact.

    Must maintain training and skills commensurate with Flight Nurse duties, equipment operation, and medical guidelines.

    Assist with continued quality assurance, to include assuring data collection and reviewing of charts for quality improvement.

    Actively involved in the care of the critically ill or injured patient.

    Aware of the need to present a professional appearance at all times. He/she is expected to: act competently and deal with customers in a courteous and respectful manner, communicate pleasantly and respectfully with other employees at all times, follow up on orders and questions promptly, provide business like replies to inquiries and requests, and perform all duties in an orderly manner.

    Responsible for checking equipment, medications, and supplies at the beginning of each shift and end of each flight, to assure that all are immediately available for in-flight use.

    Will perform other tasks and duties as assigned by his/her supervisor.

    Work in conjunction with multiple agencies at the scene of an emergency incident, or sending /receiving facility with diplomacy and tact.

    Observes and follows all federal, state, and municipal laws, including, but not limited to, HIPAA, EMTALA, and OSHA guidelines.

    Will maintain all certifications required for this position.

    Qualification for Flight Nurse

    The Flight Nurse must be a currently certified Nurse in state of operations and must maintain that certification during the entire period of employment with Classic Air Medical and Intermountain company
    There must be neither restrictions nor encumbrances on the licensure to practice as a Nurse.
    The Flight Nurse must have a minimum of three-years experience in a busy critical care or emergency department (1600 hours/year minimum each year).
    The Flight Nurse must maintain certification in the following:
    Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS)
    An Advanced Trauma Course, i.e., ATLS, TNCC, BTLS, TNATC, or ATCN
    Pediatric Advanced Cardiac Life Support (PALS)
    Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP)
    CCRN, CEN, or CFRN within one year of hire
    The Flight Nurse will perform and be responsible for all duties and skills within scope of practice and within the state scope of practice protocol.
    May be subject to body weight requirements for safety of aircraft load.

    Physical Requirements:

    Ongoing need for employee to see and read information, labels, assess patient needs, operate monitors, identify equipment and supplies.
    - and -
    Frequent interactions with patient care providers, patients, and visitors that require employee to verbally communicate as well as hear and understand spoken information, alarms, needs, and issues quickly and accurately, particularly during emergency situations.
    - and -
    Manual dexterity of hands and fingers to manipulate complex and delicate equipment with precision and accuracy. This includes frequent computer use and typing for documenting patient care, accessing needed information, medication preparation, etc.
    - and -
    Expected to lift and utilize full range of movement to transfer patients. Will also bend to retrieve, lift, and carry supplies and equipment. Typically includes items of varying weights, up to and including heavy items.
    - and -
    Need to walk and assist with transporting/ambulating patients and obtaining and distributing supplies and equipment. This includes pushing/pulling gurneys and portable equipment, including heavy items. Often required to navigate crowded and busy rooms (full of equipment, power cords on the floor, etc).
    - and -
    May be expected to sit stand in a stationary position for an extended period of time.
