    POSITION SUMMARY:

    Thisposition contributes to the fulfillment of Thayer County Health Services visionand mission by utilizes independent judgment in the performance of diagnosticimaging procedures in the radiology department, performing routine to complex diagnostic procedures in diagnostic mammographyunder the direction of a radiologist, and performing routine to complex CTprocedures for the diagnosis of disease and injury in accordance withestablished protocols under the direction/supervision of aradiologists/physician in a hospital based CT department where a wide varietyof exams are regularly preformed.

    SUPERVISION: Reportsto Radiology Supervisor

    SHIFT:Full-Time, Every other Weekend Rotation, On call shifts

    JOB QUALIFICATIONS:

    Graduates from an accredited School ofRadiologic Technology.

    Registered and certified by theAmerican Registry of Radiologic Technology (ARRT) (R) and certified by the StateBoard of Health.

    Licensed by the state of Nebraska as aGeneral Radiographer (each state has different licensure requirements).

    Registered and certified by theAmerican Registry of Radiologic Technology with Mammography (ARRT) (R) and MRI,(M) -Preferred

    Cross-trained into Computed Tomographyor voluntarily test for ARRT certification in computed tomography.-Required

    Possess professional oral and writtencommunication skills.

    PRINCIPAL RESPONSIBILITIES:

    Performs diagnostic procedures onpatients to meet the established practice parameters and standards of care including proper positioning/centering ofpart/patient, proper technical factor selection, proper image/patientidentification, proper use of image receptors, proper professional patient careand assessment, proper radiation protection provided for patient/staff/generalpublic, and proper documentation maintained.

    Works as a member of the healthcareteam including physicians, nurses and other healthcare professionals indiagnostic testing procedures such as fluoroscopy, trauma and surgery.

    Utilize a fluoroscopic unit to imagepatients in certain procedures as outlined in the American Society ofRadiologic Technologists Practice standard document, state certificationrequirements and institutional parameters.

    Performs specialized procedures fordiagnosis and assistance in the design of treatment for patients includingmyelograms and gastrointestinal exams.

    Adheres to medical and surgicalasepsis and standard precautions as required per procedure.

    Administers contrast media and bariumproducts under the direction of the radiologist/physician.

    Ensures contrast media used in examsis prepared and available for use in accordance with accepted practices insterility and infection control.

    Performs radiologic exams in surgerysuite as necessary.

    Operates portable machine in patientrooms, obstetric suite and ER as necessary.

    Follow precise procedures as toexposure and position of patient.

    Maintains the quality of radiographs,procedures and services. Reviews quality of radiographic images.

    Operates required imaging equipmentusing established guidelines and imaging protocols.

    Routine protocols and specificradiologist directions are followed in the mammography division.

    Proper lead markers are used toidentify patient position on all mammographic images.

    Appropriate x-spots and nipple markersare used, being certain to note such usage on patient history forms.

    Maintains updated CMEs onradiologists.

    Maintains proper information for FDAand ACR renewals.

    Maintains records of PMs onmammography unit.

    Maintains licensure/certificationthrough continuing education per ARRT and FDA guidelines.

    Performs quality assurance check onequipment. Phantom QA scans are run and recorded in logbook.

    Operates required equipment necessaryto produce scans using established guidelines and CT protocols.

    Startup and shutdown procedures areperformed in accordance with manufacturers guidelines.

    Completion of contrast form is verified,and information provided is validated. Acts upon information that may becontraindication (abnormal lab values, previous contrast reactions, pregnancystatus) to procedure and does not follow established exam protocol.

    Starts IV access according to standardprocedure and injects contrast media under the direction of a physician.

    Appropriate IV site is selectedaccording to exam protocol.

    Proper catheter or needle is selectedand introduced via venipuncture following established standard precautionguidelines.

    Correct IV contrast is selected andcorrect amount for administration is prepared in accordance with radiologistprescribed protocol and manufacturers guidelines.

    Appropriate injection parameters are selected,and injections are monitored according to established guidelines.

    Injection amount, IV location and flowrate is recorded on correct documentation is generated when infiltration orreaction occurs.

    Prepares and positions patient forpatient for procedure by using established CT protocols to achieve the highestquality image.

    Correct exam protocol on scannerconsole is selected and parameters are modified in accordance with radiologistprescribed protocol.

    Patient is assisted onto scanner tableusing hospital lift equipment as needed.

    Patient is positioned on scanner tableusing appropriate immobilization aides.

    Procedure is explained in laymansterms and time for feedback is allowed ensuring all questions are addressedprior to beginning exam.

    Ensures that diagnostic images areavailable for review by radiologist as necessary.

    Patient requisitions are reviewed and verifiedfor accuracy to ensure the correct procedure is performed.

    Performs clerical duties, transportspatients as required, processes images and proper inventory supplies.

    Assists with qualitycontrol/performance improvement measures as required.

    Departmental protocol book is reviewedand procedure with regards to patients requisition is validated.

    Properly identifies and explainsprocedure to patient.

    Patients are identified in accordancewith established hospital policies using two patient identifiers.

    Assists in maintaining supplyinventory.

    Ensures proper safety standards aremet.

    Radiation protection policies areobserved.

    Infection control standards areobserved in patient care areas.

    Knowledge of proper fire and safetyplans are demonstrated.

    Procedure room is inspected to ensureappropriate supplies are available based in caseload and established par levelsand expired items are removed.

    Works closely with radiologists,physicians, specialty physicians, lab technologists, nurses, patients,patients family members and other facility staff personnel.

    Assists with on-call coverage byparticipating in on-call schedule.

    Wears dosimetry badge at all timeswhile involved in radiological procedures.

    Maintains licensure/certificationthrough continuing education.

    Participates in committees whereneeded, attends in-service programs and hospital meetings.

    Maintains strict patientconfidentiality.

    Performs other duties as assigned.

    PERFORMANCE STANDARDS:

    Maintains and promotes good healthpractices.

    Will conform to TCHS procedures andpolicies.

    Will perform all duties as describedby the job description within the scope of licensure.

    Maintains current professional licensein accordance with state law.

    Does not discuss patient matters suchas medical treatment, diagnosis or history outside of the clinical setting in,keeping in compliance of HIPAA.

    Understand and comply with therequirements of Thayer County Health Services Compliance Program, including,but not limited to, the Code of Conduct, the Compliance Manual. All supportingpolicies for compliance and compliance plans.

    Participate in all education andtraining programs regarding compliance as required by organizational policy andas requested by supervisor.

    Demonstrates formal greetings withpatients, visitor and TCHS staff.

    Willingly accepts new responsibilitiesand cooperates with implementation of change.

    Dresses in a neat, clean uniform forpatient care; maintains high personal hygiene standards.

    Demonstratesrespect, integrity, compassion, and excellence through a We Care philosophywith all patients, visitors, and TCHS staff.

    WORKING CONDITIONS:

    Works in an indoor, smoke-free,climate-controlled environment.

    Requires manual and finger dexterityand eye-hand coordination for operation and repair of all departmentalequipment.

    Lifts and carries items weighing up to50 pounds.

    Lifts patients weighing up to 300pounds, and places them in appropriate positions for operation of equipment.

    Requires eyesight correctable to 20/20to operate equipment and review diagnostic images.

    Requires occasional sitting, bending,stretching or lifting.

    May require contact with individualswith communicable diseases.
