We are singularly focused on designing, building, and operating a fleet of multi-purpose commercial planetary rovers to extend and enhance humanity's presence in the solar system.
We are seeking motivated, creative, and exceptional people to join our world-class team.Astrolab is looking for a team member who will support both the development of lunar rovers and development of our production processes and facility.
You will collaborate with other Astrolab engineers to advance product design in tandem with advancing our means to build and test.
You will be ultimately responsible for ensuring the timely build and test of various rover subassemblies, subsystems, and final vehicle integration activities.
What you'll do:
Design, define, and develop fabrication, assembly, integration, test processes for structural components/structural assemblies/avionics assemblies/electro-mechanical sub-assemblies and fully integrated rovers Project manage production and test of components, sub-assemblies, and rovers Drive design for excellence (DFx) throughout all stages of the product life cycle Develop Astrolab's manufacturing execution systems Develop shop floor standards and practices Develop and institutionalize fabrication and assembly standards Champion implementation of technology, processes, and methodologies to accelerate hardware development, build, test, and operation Triage and determine solutions for non-conformances Perform hands-on troubleshooting and root cause analysis Hands-on work.
Fabrication, assembly, test, and integration Design and own assembly and fabrication tooling from concept through implementation Develop work instructions and documentation for build and test processes Outline detailed project plans and drive cross functional execution.
Perform trade studies on capital equipment and tool procurement Key supporter of these areas:Design of the rover and other lunar hardware Collaborate with the cross functional team to develop the product, processes, facility, and supply chain simultaneously championing concurrent engineering Support on-site and off-site vehicle testing Supplier development Quality systems, data, and records management Development of internal design, construction, and verification specifications Configuration management Procurement and production planning Additional Responsibilities Must be able and willing to periodically travel (i.e. field testing events)
Must be able to lift 50 lbs What you'll bring:
Bachelor's degree in a STEM field or 4+ years' of professional experience; Masters degree is a plus5+ years' of experience working in production, R&D, manufacturing engineering, or test operations; preferred experience with NASA projects Demonstrated mastery of project management and associated tools Experience with Lean and Six Sigma principals Demonstrated understanding of electro-mechanical systems as well as metallic and composite structures Deep understanding of industry and NASA mechanical and avionics standards Expert in root cause problem solving across the product life cycle High proficiency with GD&T Proficiency with CAD modeling software (e.g., NX or SolidWorks) Experience with safety regulations and establishing best practices Understanding of DAQ systems High proficiency with JIRA, MES/MRP software, and Excel Working understanding of ERP/MRP systems Preference to candidates with a working understanding of SMC-S-016 standard Preference to candidates with experience in NDE techniques for metallics Benefits and PerksWork with a team of best-in-class engineers building the foundation of planetary surface explorationOwnership in the companyMedical, dental, and vision coverage401(k) with matchingFlexible time off and parental leaveOn-site snacks, beverages, and 2x weekly lunchesFlexible work environment
