    Job Title: Internship Opportunity at San Mateo County Transit District

    About the Internship

    The San Mateo County Transit District is committed to delivering a robust Internship Program that gives students the opportunity to apply the skills learned in the classroom, develop professional skills, and acquire a thorough understanding of a unique public transit agency.

    The Summer Intern program is designed to include real work projects in each area, giving students the opportunity to consider a career in the transit industry. This includes tours of bus and train facilities, opportunities to learn about the multitude of career tracks within transit through information sessions, and professional development such as resume writing and interview skill development.

    Essential Functions & Duties

    Commercial & Business Development

    The selected intern will:

    • Develop case studies of other transit organizations' use of EV charging at stations and research non-revenue fleet vehicle transition and charging;
    • Research and present grant opportunities with a focus on traditional and energy-focused CEC, EPA, and DOE grants;
    • Assist with organizing PeopleSoft grant management software;
    • Assist with project cost controls function and support cost analysts.

    Qualifications

    Minimum Qualifications

    • Must be currently enrolled in an accredited university as an undergraduate student, graduate student, or 2024 graduate;
    • Must be able to work onsite in San Carlos for the duration of the program (June - August), not to exceed 40 hours/week or 320 cumulative hours.

    Other Qualifications

    • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint);
    • Familiarity with other computer programs desirable (e.g. CANTO, Adobe Creative Suite, Canva etc.);
    • Effective research, data analysis, and analytical skills;
    • Strong written and oral communication skills;
    • Experience in the public sector or transportation desirable but not required. Interest in Public Transportation preferred.
