    of Service Opportunity:
    "RECESS" Is a six-week summer program that will include three community-based, "pop-up" events targeting and for young people who will be entering grades 6, 7, or 8 in September of 2023.


    Role:


    The primary purpose of the "RECESS" Summer Upper School Director is to help co-design and implement a dedicated space for rising 6th, 7th, and 8th grade students to come together to explore, learn, and have fun in a safe, informal outdoor learning environment and events.

    Also, to provide structure for access to a variety of summer enrichment & non competitive activities.

    To do this, the Director will partner with various CIty Departments, the Mayor's Office, Cambridge Public Schools, Agenda for Children OST's Middle School Network as well as a wide range of youth programs, providers, camps and other vendors.

    In addition, the Director will supervise and work directly with a site-based team of RECESS staff: [Assistant Director of Content, Curriculum and Records and Youth Engagement Specialist(s)].

    This position reports to the Assistant Superintendent.


    Responsibilities Include:
    Lead program coordination planning & launch site-based team in July Conduct team
    meetings; observe team members and provide feedback
    Serve as liaison between the Mayor's Office, City, School Department, Middle School
    Network, and Youth Organizations
    Recruit partners and programming for RECESS and nurture mutually beneficial relationships
    Manage partnerships with regular vendors/visitors and visiting programs
    Oversee the daily on-site operations
    Facilitate behavior & conflict management amongst participants
    Manage & supervise MSYEP teens placed at the Recess Pilot
    Supervise lunch distribution
    Manage logistics of infrastructure setup and plan for securing of materials
    Ensure compliance with city/state/federal COVID safety protocols


    Minimum Requirements/Job Qualifications:

    Understands the developmental needs of pre-teens entering grades 6, 7, and 8; Ability to relate to youth and adults in a positive manner; motivated; detailed-oriented; team player; creative; flexible; willing to take on additional responsibilities when needed; familiarity with Cambridge youth services and community-based providers preferred.


    Available to work dates of the program
    Minimum 2 years of experience working with youth in a school, Out-of-School Time, or
    summer camp setting
    Bachelor's degree preferred
    Commitment to equity in youth development
    Maintain good public relations with city partners
    Restorative Justice Practices experience
    Reliable and punctual
    Be First Aid and CPR trained prior to start of program
    Must successfully complete CORI process


    Length of Contract:

    July 3, September 29, 2023


    Contract Amount:

    $40.00 per hour, Not to exceed $11,000.00
