    Sales Manager, Leisure

    POSITION PURPOSE

    Responsible for performing daily tasks that align with the department's long term goals and objectives, uphold Montage Palmetto Bluff's Vision, Mission and Values, supports Director of Leisure Sales and the entire leadership team, provides excellent customer service and telephone etiquette, and actively aspires to reach defined goals and objectives. Position will be based on property. Light travel required.

    The position will allocate 25% of time to solicitation of new business from the retail travel agent and luxury consortia markets via telephone solicitation, outside sales calls - requiring travel 1-2 times per quarter, site inspections and written communication. The remaining 75% of time will be allocated towards making reservations in Opera and other booking systems such as Resdiary and Resort Suite, following through on VIP requests, and servicing the needs of VIP leisure guests and top travel agency clients prior to arrival or while on-property. Prepare correspondence to customers, internal booking reports and client contact/database maintenance. Participate in daily/weekly sales meetings, revenue management meetings and training. Work closely with other departments such as Reservations and Guest Relations to provide quality service to both transient and wholesale guests. Develop and maintain knowledge of market trends, competition, and customers. Excellent working knowledge of Opera and Microsoft Office in required. Knowledge of Resort Suite, Alice and ResDiary is beneficial.

    ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
    • Manage overall sales efforts for the Leisure and Transient markets.
    • Establish Leisure and Transient Travel Marketing and Action Plans.
    • Provide direct service to guests as needed, including supporting other departments such as Reservations, Guest Relations, Front Office, Housekeeping, In Room Dining, etc. as needed.
    • Attainment of annual room night and revenue goal for the leisure and transient travel market.
    • Initiate contact with perspective leisure travel industry and consortia accounts as identified through direct sales program.
    • Establish and maintain accounting procedures for the purpose of keeping weekly, monthly, quarterly and year-to-date total room night and revenue production for each leisure travel account.
    • Responsible for monthly production activity reports and submissions to the property Director of Sales, Leisure and Montage International (Leisure Sales) Home Office outlining specific production, direct sales efforts, measurable results, and trends.
    • Coordinate special promotional events for key leisure and transient travel customers and their clients, i.e. advisor appreciation dinners and private yacht club receptions etc.
    • Prepare bi-annual evaluation of individual companies in order to review the results in unison with the property Director of Sales, Leisure to ensure leisure and transient travel goals are being met.
    • Make qualified sales trips and solicit new clients on behalf of Montage Palmetto Bluff and Montage International as a whole.
    • Monitor ground and e-mailings to leisure and transient travel customers with updates of promotions, packages, programs, and events.
    • Possess ability to effectively work with department heads and hotel personnel.
    • Maintain active liaison with competitors regionally through personal contacts and professional associations.
    • Maintain working knowledge of all Montage International to cross-sell effectively.
    • Work closely with Montage International's Regional/Corporate Sales Team to establish relationships with consortiums, wholesalers, and travel management companies to maximize marketing opportunities.
    • Communicate changes in the rate/promo/package/events to internal and external colleagues, including other Montage and Pendry sales teams.
    • After a year in the position, a review of account's production and travel pattern to determine the appropriate market segment for negotiation.
    • Participate on the hotel revenue management team and attend weekly Revenue Meeting, when needed.
    • Plan and organize sales efforts / sales blitzes / sales calls for all leisure and transient travel agencies including travel influencers such as personal assistants and entertainment agents/managers.
    • Represent property at appropriate travel industry tradeshows, conferences, and meetings.
    • Responsible for maintaining the major consortia websites and intranet sites such as , and
    • Host Travel Industry Site Inspections including tours confirmed by Director of Sales, Leisure.
    • Interact with Revenue Management, Marketing/PR, Reservations, Front Desk, and Group Sales to ensure everyone is updated on new programs, packages and travel industry events that could impact their departments.
    • Must have a close working relationship with DORM's, DOS's, DOSM's, and GM's.
    • Submit reports to Director of Sales, Leisure as requested.

    • Regular attendance in conformance with the standards, which may be established from time to time, is essential to the successful performance of this position. Employees with irregular attendance will be subject to disciplinary action, up to and including termination of employment.
    • Due to the cyclical nature of the hospitality industry, employees may be required to work varying schedules to reflect the business needs of the hotel. In addition, attendance at all scheduled training sessions and meetings is required. Working weekends, holidays and after "normal" work hours will be required at times.
    • Upon employment, all employees are required to fully comply with Montage rules and regulations for the safe and effective operation of the hotel's facilities. Employees who violate hotel rules and regulations will be subject to disciplinary action, up to and including termination of employment.
    SUPPORTIVE FUNCTIONS
    • In addition to performance of the essential functions, this position may be required to perform a combination of the following supportive functions, with the percentage of time performing each function to be solely determined by the manager based upon the particular requirements of the hotel:
    • Professionally represent the hotel in community and industry organizations and events.
    • Participate as team player with all departments.
    • Assist with reports and/or competition data collection.
    SPECIFIC JOB KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES
    • The individual must possess the following knowledge, skills and abilities and be able to explain and demonstrate that he or she can perform the essential functions of the job, with or without reasonable accommodation, using some other combination of knowledge, skills, and abilities:
    • Basic knowledge of the Resort operations. Previous hotel experience preferred.
    • Must be detailed oriented.
    • Exceptional customer service skills.
    • Must be able to speak, read, write and understand the primary language(s) used in the workplace.
    • Must be able to read and write to facilitate the communication process.
    • Requires good communication skills, both verbal and written.
    • Knowledge of all departments of hotel.
    • Ability to communicate customer needs and resolve complaints independently.
    • Ability to establish and master goals.
    • Ability to identify and develop accounts.
    • Ability to act independently with minimal or no supervision.
    • Must possess basic computer programs such as Microsoft Word, Excel, and PPT.
    • Must be familiar with hospitality/travel programs, including, but not limited to, Opera, Alice, Resort Suite, ResDiary, Delphi, Certify, Sertify, and PCI, and AXIOM.
    • Familiarity with Resort Suite and HOTSOS is also favorable.
    • Math skills, as well as budgetary analysis capabilities required.
    QUALIFICATION STANDARDS
    • High school or equivalent education required. Bachelor's Degree preferred.
    • Past hotel experience required. Past sales experience preferred.
    • Driver's License is required. Passport is preferred.
    • All employees must maintain a neat, clean and well-groomed appearance per Montage International standards.
    PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

    Working in a shared office situation. Position requires walking and touring of clients and guests throughout the resort. Length of time of these tasks may vary from each situation but could last up to 2 hours+ of walking or standing. Position requires driving 4-seater and 6-seater golf carts with clients and colleagues. Must be able to sit at a desk for up to 5-6 hours per day. Must be able to exert well-paced ability to reach other departments of the hotel on a timely basis. Must be able to lift heavy boxes of collateral when traveling, occasionally. Must be able to pull, push, and carry your own luggage when traveling. Requires grasping, writing, standing, sitting, walking, repetitive motions, bending, climbing, listening and hearing ability and visual acuity. Talking and listening occur continuously in the process of communicating with guests, supervisors and subordinates. Vision occurs continuously with the most common visual functions being those of near vision and depth perception. Must have finger dexterity to be able to operate office equipment such as computers, printers, 10-key adding machine, electric typewriter, multi-line touch tone phone, filing cabinets, FAX machines, photocopiers, dolly and other office equipment as needed. Business travel required, which may include fast pace walking to catch short connecting flights and sitting in economy class for an extended length of time when traveling on business.
