    Summary

    The Peer Recovery Support Specialist plays a vital role in helping individuals with substance use disorders. They draw upon their personal experiences to offer hope and support, guiding parents/caregivers and their families towards recovery goals.

    Key Responsibilities:

    • Reinforces the message of hope and recovery to individuals struggling with substance use disorder
    • Assists parents/caregivers in gaining skills and resources needed to initiate and maintain recovery
    • Helps establish a supportive social and physical environment for recovery
    • Empowers parents/caregivers to make informed choices about their recovery pathway

    Competencies:

    • Educates parents/caregivers on navigating treatment, social services, and recovery support systems
    • Positively influences parent/caregiver and family members through shared knowledge, hope, and skills
    • Communicates effectively in writing and verbally
    • Demonstrates critical thinking abilities

    Qualifications:

    • High school diploma or equivalent; Bachelor's Degree preferred
    • Effective written and verbal communication skills
    • Basic computer skills
    • Valid driver's license
    • Age 21 or older
    • Knowledge of addictions preferred
    • At least two years of sustained recovery or two years practicing recovery principles as a family member affected by substance use
    • PASS PRE-EMPLOYMENT DRUG TEST AND BACKGROUND CHECK

    Training and Development:

    The Department of Children and Families approved Peer Recovery Support Service training is mandatory, including Ethics and Division of Child Protection and Permanency. Additional trainings may be required such as Domestic Violence, Sexual Assault, Human Trafficking, Psychological First Aid, and agency-specific trainings.
