Job Summary:
Assists DON in overseeing general day-to-day operations of nursing department including management of direct reports.
Education:
- RN with BS in health or business management preferred
- Master's degree preferred
License/Certification:
- Current state of Tennessee RN license
- BLS required
Experience:
- Extensive RN experience in which leadership has been exhibited required.
- Management experience required.
- Experience in a long term care facility preferred.
Responsibilities
- Assures patient/resident safety.
- Ensures documentation requirements are met per daily report reviews.
- Reviews pertinent reports on daily, weekly and monthly basis, and communicates information to IDT accordingly.
- Participates in the recruitment and selection of nursing personnel, and recommends termination of employment when necessary.
- Assists in orientation at onboarding for new hires and on an annual basis for all nursing staff.
- Assists in supervision and progressive discipline associated with nursing department staff.
- Promotes and maintains harmonious relationships among nursing personnel and with the medical staff, patients/residents, their families and the public.
- Participates in screening of potential patients/residents, working with social services/admissions of new patients/residents.
- Handles clinical and operational aspects of Skilled Unit to include admission audits, discharge planning, care plans, follow-up appointments, communication with residents/patients and families and participates in care-plan meetings with IDT/resident families.
- Assess residents' medical condition as appropriate and subsequently ensures proper care.
- Collaborate with members of the IDT in development and implementation of processes relevant to the nursing department.
- Helps identify process flaws.
- Participates in community educational health programs.
- May attend approved seminars and workshops to keep abreast of changing aspects of long term/skilled nursing and related care fields.
- Assists in developing and implementing plans of correction.
- Evaluates efficacy of corrective actions and recommends adjustments as appropriate.
- Assists in ensuring weekly risk meetings are addressed and documented per policy.
- Addresses all falls in collaboration with IDT – reviews incident and implementation of interventions.
- On-call responsibilities every other week.
- Performs all other related duties as assigned.
