    Primary responsibility of the Safety Manger is to ensure compliance with government contract safety regulations and industry standards, as well as file and manage employee work-related injuries, and develop procedures to mitigate risk of employee injury and illness.

    The Safety Manager inspects workplaces to minimize or eliminate hazards and recommends changes to protect and educate employees on compliance through safety training programs.

    The Safety Manager investigates accidents to identify their causes and find ways to prevent them in the future.

    The ideal EMI Safety Manager has working knowledge of multi-state Safety rules and laws and professionalism to work directly with the Project Manager, Director of Human Resources, and the United States Government and military.

    Environmental Protection Agency (EPA)US Army Corps of Engineers (USACE)Air Force Occupational Safety and Health Standards (AFOSH)Safety and Health Requirements ManualsFederal, State and/or local agenciesConduct formal and informal audits and inspections- scheduled and unscheduledEnsure all employees receive adequate and effective safety and health trainingEstablish/Maintain a Safety Committee to help management improve safety and health in the workplaceEnsure departments achieve and maintain environmental compliance, prevent pollution and participate in environmental programsOversee Develop/Prepare/Enforce safety and health programs/standards, goals and accident/incident reporting proceduresMaintain documentation and recordkeeping in compliance with Federal standardsAssist each project location with developing and maintaining a safe and healthy work environmentFile and manage all worker claims of injuryInvestigate all major safety and health concerns/issuesServe as the units/department point of contact for matters involving environmental issues and compliance with Base Order (BO Develop and maintain environmental SOP in accordance with BO to implement the environmental management programMaintain a list of locations of all environmental related sitesConduct weekly and monthly inspections of environmental related sites and recordsPerform and document follow up actions requiredOversee and participate in the implementation of command Hazardous Material (HM)ensure all HM operations are carried out in compliance with the requirements of BO 5090.9Actively promote the reduction of volume and toxicity of HM producedProvide leadership and set a personal example with respect to safetyEssential SkillsUnderstanding and enforcement of key multi-state and federal safety regulations that relate to OSHA and Company policy and proceduresAbility to conduct employee training presentations in a professional, clear, and concise mannerUnderstanding of North Carolina Workers Compensation laws and claims managementWorking knowledge of personal computer applications including Microsoft Office and OutlookDetail oriented, thorough, and accurateMust exhibit initiative and independent thinkingAdaptable and flexible in work situationsEstablish priorities to ensure completion of tasks in a timely mannerPRACTICES WORKPLACE SAFETYIncluding proper use of personal protective equipment (PPE)RequirementsHigh school diploma or equivalent3+ years safety enforcement experience and Certified Safety Professional (CSP) degree, or 5+ years safety enforcement experience of similar size, scope, and complexityEM385 TrainingKnowledge of NC Workers Compensation law and claims managementKnowledge of NC safety rules and lawsOSHA 30 training; 24 hours continuing educationWilling and able to work outside normal business hours when necessaryValid driver's licenseValid DL compliant with REAL ID Act or willing and able to obtain onePass a pre-employment drug screening and background checkU.S.
