    The position provides geotechnical engineering and design services to all activities and tenants for a broad range of facilities, served by Naval Facilities Engineering Systems Command (NAVFAC), in a Regional Office in San Diego. This includes a large number of customer activities with varied missions, dispersed over a sizable geographical southwest region with numerous facility types, ranging from administrative and housing facilities to very complex industrial and operational facilities. NAVFAC is the Department of Defense (DoD) design and construction agent for facilities construction, including the Military Construction (MILCON) program.

    Seeking a professional geotechnical engineer to serve as a technical expert for the regional area serviced concerning civil/structural engineering projects involving planning, design, construction and maintenance of facilities for the Navy, Marine Corps, and other supported commands, including special projects, military construction (MILCON), waterfront projects, demolition, maintenance, and facilities development.

    Responsibilities Include:

    • Provide geotechnical engineering expertise on soil stability and displacements on various foundations, embankments and subgrades for site development, roadways, airfield pavements, water systems, drainage systems, dredging, and waterfront projects.
    • Perform geotechnical design analyses and calculations for various projects to meet the ever-changing demands of the Navy and Marine Corps shore establishments.
    • Coordinate activities with other engineers and architects, including Design-Bid-Build (DBB) and Design-Build (DB) projects, to ensure that final detailed working drawings, specifications, and RFPs are properly integrated with the building systems.
    • Serve as final authority on geotechnical scope compliance and resolves design review comments with the A/E firm and other stakeholders to correct deficiencies.
    • Provide technical guidance to A/E firms regarding geotechnical criteria application and unique DoD functional requirements.
    • Prepare statements of work, government estimates of fee, reports, technical correspondence, and develops pre-negotiation position and assists in negotiations to support project execution.

    The ideal candidate has at least 10 years of experience in geotechnical engineering field and minimum of 5 years as a licensed professional.

    Position Requirements:

    • Valid Driver's License
    • Bachelor's of Science in Civil or Structural Engineering
    • Registration as a Professional Engineer (PE) License
    • Must hold U.S. Citizenship
    • Aged 18 or older at time of hire
