Job DescriptionDescription:

The Carol Stream Public Library is looking for a reliable and dedicated part-time team member to work Monday and Wednesday evenings (5-9pm) and rotating every other Saturday and Sunday, averaging 12-14 hours per week. Part-time employees receive 3 paid holidays, 2 additional floating holidays, and accrue paid leave. Part-time employees are eligible to enroll in vision benefits and can participate in a retirement investment fund.

Position Summary:

Performs the full range of circulation services and a variety of clerical procedures with a focus on successful customer interaction

Essential Job Duties and Responsibilities:

•Welcome visitors and respond to inquiries

•Monitor incoming telephone calls and route accordingly

•Monitor chat for curbside pickup of available materials

•Deliver materials for curbside pickup

•Perform Library materials check-in, check-out, renewals, placing and processing of holds

•Assess the condition of returned and transited materials for review

•Register, renew and maintain patron accounts

•Sorts, shelves, relocates, and searches for library materials

•Retrieve returned materials from book drop

•Reads shelves for accuracy of order, re-shelving materials as needed

•Explain account and borrowing policies to customers and staff

•Assist customers in the use of Library equipment

•Records transactions for statistical purposes

•Performs other duties as assigned

Requirements:

Education:

•High school diploma or equivalent required

Experience:

•Two years customer service experience preferred

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

•Strong customer service orientation

•Ability to handle cash and credit transactions

•Ability to interpret and execute detailed procedures

•Interpersonal skills using tact, patience and courtesy

•Attention to detail, accuracy and organization

•Works collaboratively as a member of a team and independently with minimal direction

•Uses verbal, written and electronic communication effectively

•Proficient in using a personal computer and office productivity software

•Applies basic problem-solving to a variety of situations

Working Conditions/Physical Requirements:

•Multiple daily collection of materials from inside and outside book drop in varying temperature and weather

•Ability to, bend, stoop, carry, reach, pull, push and lift up to 20 pounds
