    About the roleWe are looking for an experienced senior backend engineer with strong interest or experience in applied mathematics and statistical modeling to join the backend engineering team and collaborate on challenges at a fast-paced startup. Customer success hinges on high-quality platform and application development. Your solid and dependable software engineering work for our products will have a meaningful impact on helping companies achieve fairness in the workplace.     • Collaborate with junior, senior and staff engineers to design and develop mid to large features and services delivered to Syndio end users.
    • Designing and implementing algorithms for budget allocation and distribution.
    • Developing mathematical models to address pay equity disparities.
    • Build scalable and secure APIs, focusing on backend integrations and ensuring robust data management and security.
    • Mentor junior team members as well as advocate and lead initiatives for technological enhancements vital to our strategic goals.
    About you
    • Software Engineering Experience: Extensive experience in building reliable, performant, and maintainable backend systems.
    • Programming Proficiency: Strong skills in backend development with proficiency in at least one modern programming language such as Python or Go.
    • Cloud Architecture: Experience in architecting applications on cloud platforms, particularly Google Cloud Platform (GCP).
    • Data Management: Strong experience with data model and schema design, and technologies such as PostgreSQL, Redis, and Cloud PubSub.
    • API Development: Thorough knowledge of API architecture and development.
    • System Scalability: Experience with optimizing back-end architectures for efficient resource efficiency and scalability.
    • Testing Methodologies: Familiarity with current testing methodologies, especially unit testing.
    • Communication Skills: Effective communication capabilities for interacting with both technical and non-technical teams.
    • Team Collaboration: Demonstrated ability to work with cross-functional teams in a collaborative environment.
    • Background: Degree or strong interest in economics, mathematics, statistics or quantitative social sciences.

    Extra Credit

    • Workflow Orchestration: Experience with tools like Apache Airflow or Temporal, particularly in designing and maintaining complex workflows.
    • Advanced Analytics Development: Experience in building analytical tools that support complex data analysis.

    • Competitive Compensation. For this role our salary is targeted at $151,000 -$177,000 per year. Final offer amounts are determined by factors such as experience and expertise. We aim to take a geo neutral approach to compensation within the US, meaning that we pay based on job function and level, not location.

    The interview overview

    Below you'll find an outline of the interview plan for our Senior Software Engineer, Backend position. Please note that this is what we expect the process to look like; we may ask you for supplemental information or require an additional step before making a final decision.

    1. 30 min interview with a member of our Talent Team
    2. 45 minute zoom interview with the Hiring Manager
    3. A take-home assignment (This replaces live coding in further interviews)
    4. Three video interviews with several team members (Frontend Engineers, Product & Design hours
    5. Final interviews with the team manager and a backend peer - 1 hour
