    Description
    GIS Administrator - Administrative Division
    (Salary Range $30.45 / hour - $48.72 / hour)

    The purpose of this classification is to administer Geographic Information System (GIS) and related databases.

    Essential Functions:
    • Creates, maintains, and updates GIS database.
    • Provides short, middle and long-range planning.
    • Manages GIS servers and software.
    • Creates and designs custom GIS applications.
    • Provides technical support for custom applications and packaged software products.
    • Organizes geospatial data.
    • Evaluates performance and effectiveness of current GIS services and systems.
    • Processes a variety of documentation associated with department/division operations, within designated timeframes and per established procedures.
    • Operates a personal computer and other electronic devices.
    • Communicates with DPU Division Directors, supervisor, other employees, clients, third party service contractors, laborers, the public, and other individuals as needed.
    • May be required to work after normal business hours, weekends, holidays, Standby Duty or be called out as needed 24 hours/day 7 days/week.
    • Performs other related duties as required.
    Minimum Qualifications:
    • Bachelor's Degree in Geographic Information Systems, Geography, Information Engineering, cartography, planning, engineering or a related field required; supplemented by three years of experience in administering, creating and maintaining GIS databases, servers and applications; or any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
    • Must reside within a radius of Orangeburg, SC that allows for a 30-minute maximum response.
    • Must possess valid South Carolina Driver's License.
    • Must possess and maintain a valid Geographic Information Systems Professional Certification (GISP) or equivalent experience.
    Specific Knowledge, Skills, or Abilities:
    • Must have GIS training with strong knowledge of SQL databases.
    • Must have considerable experience with ESRI software and a fundamental understanding of object-oriented programming.
