Department Description:
University Development's purpose is to support the mission of the
university by raising private resources to enhance financial
support for students, faculty, programs, and facilities. University
Development provides leadership and centralized services to all
development offices throughout the University, serving as a focal
point for annual giving, application development and IT support;
campaign management; constituent programs; corporate and foundation
relations; donor relations; gift planning; gift services; industry
relations; marketing/communications; parents giving; principal
gifts; prospect management, research and analytics; regional
programs; scholarships and student aid; talent management;
university events; and volunteer engagement.

Position Description:
This
position may be eligible for a hybrid work arrangement that may
include a partially remote work location, consistent with System
Office policy. UNC Chapel Hill employees are generally required to
reside within a reasonable commuting distance of their assigned
duty station.
The Associate Director of Gift Planning will make up a team of four
professional fundraisers and three professional administrators.
Reporting to the Senior Director of Development, the Associate
Director will represent the tradition, mission, programs and needs
of The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill to all
constituent groups and serve as a liaison between the Office of
University Development and assigned development officers of
schools, units and affiliated foundations. The Associate Director
will directly solicit donors; work closely with alumni and friends
of the University and their financial advisors and attorneys
regarding the structure of lifetime and testamentary gifts that
will benefit the University. Provide active, ongoing personal
stewardship of donors and perform other program duties as assigned.
Travel is required.
Essential Skills, Knowledge and
Abilities:
Superior interpersonal, oral
and written communications skills. Candidates will also be able to
work both independently and as a team player, meet ambitious goals
and interact effectively with alumni, friends, faculty and staff in
a research university.
Education Requirements:
Minimum of a bachelor's degree required (or foreign degree
equivalent) with related experience. For positions with
responsibility for direct solicitation of gifts and funds, a
minimum of 1 year of professional-level, direct
solicitation/fundraising experience is required.
Qualifications and
Experience:
Leading candidates will have
demonstrated success in a gift planning development position or
related field, with a minimum of two years of experience in gift
planning or a substantially related field such as major gift
fundraising, trust administration, higher education, financial
planning or legal practice. Knowledge of laws, rules and
regulations governing charitable estate planning is preferred.
