    We are expanding New York City's ferry service to a total of six routes over 60 miles of waterways that will connect New Yorkers and visitors to the City's waterfront communities - including neighborhoods, job centers, and parks.

    The Captain directs the vessel's activities and operates the vessel safely and efficiently while supervising onboard employees.

    This position serves as the primary contact onboard the vessel with the U S C G concerning compliance with laws and regulations.

    The Captain administers training and drills aboard the vessel, and this position ensures a high level of customer service is provided.

    About You:

    This person will be adaptable, dynamic, and embody City Experiences' R E S P E C T Service System.

    Essential Duties & Responsibilities:

    Direct the ferry's activities and ensure passengers' safety and security while vessel is underway. Operate vessel at economic engine speeds, per established policies.

    Plan and coordinate safety inspections of the ferry to insure safe operation of equipment, crew safety and compliance with U S C G laws and regulations.

    Train and provide feedback for evaluation of the performance of marine crew. Ensure all inspections by the U S C G meet the standard (no 835s) insofar as is practicable. Ensure vessel(s) maintain a C O I inspection ready condition at all times. Ensure vessel(s) are kept in appropriate satisfactory condition and maintenance work is done unobtrusively while guests are onboard. Maintain and enhance our benchmark status with all inspecting agencies. Ensure compliance with all applicable local, state, and federal safety and environmental regulations to include station bill assignments. Provide required training as needed for working with and proper disposal of hazardous waste. Maintain radio watch and monitor V H F channels 13 and 14.

    Guarantee a physically safe and environmentally sound working environment - proper tools, training, training, facilities, and materials for all crewmembers; conduct weekly emergency.

    Must be able to lift and carry up to 50lbs. Must be able to climb ladders, bend, stoop, crouch, crawl, and respond quickly to various emergencies and situations. Work in various degrees of weather and visibility. Additional duties as assigned.


    Requirements & Qualifications:
    H S Diploma/degree, or equivalent of experience, from an accredited institution. Valid U. S. C. G.

    license endorsed as Captain of Motor Vessels of at least 100 gross tons upon Inland Waters, and ability to maintain.

    Valid Transportation Worker Identification Credential ( T W I C Card), and/or ability to obtain and maintain. Valid First Aid/ C P R Certification, and/or ability to obtain and maintain. Valid Driver's License. Copy of D D214, if Veteran status.

    Possess and demonstrate superior judgment, analytical ability, performance under pressure and other skills necessary during routine operation or emergency response aboard a motor vessel.

    Thoroughly understand all pertinent regulations and laws under which the vessel operates. Communicate clearly and effectively both orally and in writing. Ability to effectively interact with the passengers, guests, and fellow employees.

    Ability to use independent judgment and discretion to develop and execute innovative solutions to crew management and morale issues Logically and independently plan, organize, and complete work assignments.

    Prior experience in the Passenger Vessel Industry preferred.
