    GFL Environmental is looking for an experienced Equipment Operator to join our team in Chemainus, British Columbia

    As an Equipment operator you have the ability to safely operate various equipment including dozers, loaders, excavators, compactors, forklift and/or steer equipment to bale, load and move waste material at the site. An ideal candidate will have a friendly demeanor and is physically capable of completing job duties in a positive, team oriented and supportive environment.

    Key Responsibilities:


    • Operate necessary equipment to bale and load waste material into trailers


    • Perform inspection and maintenance checks of equipment daily


    • Grease/lubricate equipment, check and add fluids to equipment daily


    • Operator will steer, guide and or drive the above listed equipment at the assigned site, if the equipment is used at the particular site(s) using steering wheel, shifters, levers, buttons and pedals.


    • Operator will substitute if someone is absent from the work crew or as needed/required.


    • Operator will clean trash from tracks of heavy equipment by pulling and or cutting material away from tracks and gear mechanisms at least once daily or more if needed.


    • Operator will use a two-way radio to communicate with co-workers in the field and or office regarding work activities, requirements and priorities for the work day.


    • Maintain appearance of the grounds and facility.


    • Attend safety and branch meetings.


    • Comfortable with basic mathematical calculations.


    • Comfortable communicating effectively and efficiently.


    • Work in outdoor environment 100% of the time.


    • Conform in all respects with applicable federal, state/provincial and local laws, regulations, ordinances and other orders and to all company policies, procedures and directives from supervisors.


    • Perform other duties and responsibilities as required or requested by management.

    Requirements:


    • Must be able to frequently lift/push/pull up to 25 pounds and occasionally lift/push/pull up to 50 pounds


    • Comfortably operate dozers, loaders, excavators, compactors, forklift and/or steer equipment with safety shoes and eye protection


    • Ability to obtain Transfer Station / Landfill Operations Certification if needed


    • Completion of Heavy equipment certifications an asset


    • Former field, landscaping, rental agency, farm experience an asset
