    This role reports to the Director/Manager of Respiratory Therapy and receives daily guidance from the Respiratory Supervisors.

    The Respiratory Care Practitioner provides respiratory care across all age groups.

    The Respiratory Care Practitioner's responsibilities include direct patient care within their licensed scope of services, following state regulations, and the Registration Board of Respiratory Care.

    The Respiratory Care Practitioner works based on physician orders, adheres to departmental and Lahey Hospital & Medical Center policies.

    The Respiratory Care Practitioner requires high-level critical thinking skills, the ability to apply best practices, and openness to others' viewpoints on patient care matters.

    Job Description:
    Essential Duties & Responsibilities including but not limited to:


    Respiratory Therapist Burlington

    • Provides direct patient care under physician orders and within the scope of services and licensure laws
    o Collaborates with providers

    o Reviews and ensures timely treatment of current orders

    o Administers medications using various methods

    o Assesses patients continuously during treatment

    o Develops and updates care plans

    o Manages ventilator parameters as per orders

    o Documents patient settings accurately

    o Monitors and records alarm settings

    o Conducts daily spontaneous breathing trials

    o Calibrates inhaled nitric oxide delivery system


    o Handles inhaled nitric oxide in different settings, including the operating room

    o Administers helium-oxygen therapy

    o Sets up and adjusts BIPAP parameters according to orders

    o Initiates Non-Invasive Ventilation for patients

    o Performs various respiratory procedures

    o Assists in procedures

    o Supports ventilated patient transfers

    o Aids in transitioning ventilator patients to portable ventilators

    o Responds to emergencies such as MET calls and codes

    o Performs CPR when necessary

    o Contributes to research projects

    o Draws and sends arterial blood gases for analysis

    o Conducts spirometry and other measurements

    o Reviews equipment and procedures proactively

    o Assists and advises nurses on respiratory issues

    o Participates in committees and projects

    o Adapts to new practices and initiatives

    o Manages patient charges, events, and equipment setup efficiently

    o Ensures visibility in critical care areas; attends provider rounds

    o Manages time and workflow effectively

    o Prioritizes a patient-centric approach

    Minimum Qualifications:

    Education:
    Associates degree in Respiratory Therapy from an Accredited School of Respiratory Therapy.


    Licensure, Certification, Registration:

    • Massachusetts License
    • Certified Respiratory Therapist - Registered Respiratory Therapist Preferred
    • Current BLS certification

    Skills, Knowledge & Abilities:

    • Excellent interpersonal skills
    • Working knowledge of PC's.
    • Strong Oral and Written Communication skills.
    • Ability to communicate specialized clinical and medical information to the healthcare team, including physicians and nurses

    Experience:
    Experience as a Staff Respiratory Therapist with a focus on critical care preferred

    Lahey Hospital and Medical Center is currently offering a signing bonus of up to $5,000 for the Respiratory Therapist role.


    Important Details:
    Signing Bonuses are paid out in two installments.

    The first half is awarded upon completing 30 days of employment, and the second half after 6 months.

    Bonuses are disbursed on the following regular payroll date after eligibility.

    All payments are subject to taxed deductions.


    To be eligible:

    • Current and previous BILH candidates may have restrictions. Employees within the BILH system may not qualify if currently employed by a BILH entity within the last 12 months. Employees must be in good standing to receive the bonus payment.
    • Bonus amounts are based on a 40-hour work week. Payments will be adjusted for hours less than 40. Per Diem roles are excluded.
    • Leaving Lahey Hospital & Medical Center before one year will require repayment of the signing bonus.
    • Note that the availability and amount of signing bonuses are subject to change according to organizational needs and are decided by Talent Acquisition regularly. BILH/LHMC Talent Acquisition reserves the right to modify eligible jobs and bonus amounts at any time.
