    Neonatologist

    Venesco, LLC has a new opening for three (3) Neonatologists to provide services at Walter Reed National Military Medical Center. The Neonatologists will provide care to dependents of military service members. This is a great opportunity to make a difference in the lives of those who serve our country

    These positions are full time. Neonatologists will participate in medical care and academic training.

    Duty Hours: Mon-Sun 7:00 am to 5:00 pm. Night call 5:00 pm to 7:00 am.

    • The neonatologists are required to be on service 1 week (7 days) every academic block (13 blocks in 12 months) and up to 7 night shifts every academic block. 1 FTE = 160 hours per 4 weeks.
    • While on service the neonatologist will be expected to teach and mentor Pediatrics, OB-GYN, and Anesthesia residents, along with and Neonatology fellows during each of the academic blocks (13 blocks in 12 months).

    Core Duties:

    Contract Neonatologist shall be expected to function as a member of the staff of the WRNMMC Neonatal Perinatal Fellowship Program and Pediatric Residency Training Program and participate in resident education to include the following:

    • Conduct formal Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) teaching rounds at least seven (7) days per week with on-service neonatology fellow and pediatric house staff on aspects of diagnosis and management of NICU patients and the performance of technical and procedural skills.
    • Ensure that progress notes, diagnosis and treatment plans are completed in accordance with Military Treatment Facility (MTF) guidelines.
    • Responsible for writing orders directly and/or supervising orders written by house officers.
    • Contractor shall become familiar with the hospital formulary. Contract physicians who are authorized to prescribe pharmaceuticals shall do so according to the availability of drugs listed therein. The pharmacy services will provide instructions to all prescribing practitioners regarding substitutions of generic drugs for prescribed drugs. The contract physician shall follow the procedures of the MTF when prescribing drugs.
    • Prepare and maintain proper medical records on beneficiaries to whom treatment is provided in accordance with MTF procedures.
    • Answer consults from other services within WRNMMC (i.e., pediatric subspecialists, pediatric surgeons, et al) in conformation with WRNMMC's policy guidelines.
    • Determine when the patient's status shall allow for discharge from the NICU. At the time of discharge, the Neonatologist shall initiate a discharge order and inform the outpatient physician.
    • Consider the opinions of other WRNMMC staff physicians regarding each case, and to make management decisions in the spirit of a cooperative medical team, and in the patient's best interest. For surgical patients the neonatologist will remain as the primary physician and the surgical team acting as consultants.
    • Maintain a level of professionalism by continuing to enhance their education and by participating in continuing medical education programs required by the DHA, State, Federal and peer review organizations.

    Requirements

    • Degree: Doctor of Medicine
    • Completion of a minimum of three (3) years formal training (Fellowship) in Neonatal Perinatal Medicine Fellowship with Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME) approved facility with Board Eligibility or Certification.
    • Actively seeking Board Certification (in process of becoming Board Certified within eighteen (18) months) or Board Certified in Neonatal Perinatal Medicine.
    • Possess experience in a Pediatric Residency Training Program and in a Neonatal Perinatal Medicine Fellowship Training Program as Consultant or residency instructor.
    • Possess and maintain a current valid unrestricted license to practice medicine in any state in the United Sates, The District of Columbia, Puerto Rico, or the Virgin Islands.
    • Possess and maintain a current Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) registration number to prescribe controlled substances. The medical license shall be from the state in which the contractor or contractors' employees are registered with the DEA.
    • Possess sufficient initiative, interpersonal relationship skills and social sensitivity such that he/she can relate constructively to a variety of patients from diverse backgrounds.
    • Maintain certification in Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP), STABLE, Basic Life Support (BLS) and Pediatric Advance Life Support (PALS).
