Cook / Kitchen Lead
(Full-Time)
Oak Knoll Rehab & Healthcare Center
Pay Range: $21.60–$24.00 per hour
Schedule: Full-time
ServeSafe Certification: Required (bonus if already certified)
Position Summary
Oak Knoll Rehab & Healthcare Center is seeking an experienced Cook/Kitchen Lead to support daily food service operations. This role involves food preparation, meal service, sanitation compliance, and assisting with kitchen staff oversight. Ideal candidates have strong culinary skills, leadership experience, and a commitment to food safety and quality.
Essential Functions
- Prepare, cook, and merchandise menu items according to standardized recipes and planned menus
- Ensure food is properly seasoned, cooked, portioned, and served during meal service
- Monitor service lines and replenish food as needed to avoid service interruptions
- Prepare food for special functions based on production sheets
- Creatively prepare food items for the general store (where applicable)
- Receive, inspect, and properly store food deliveries using FIFO procedures
- Ensure proper storage and labeling of leftovers with item description and date
- Maintain a clean and sanitary work area by following posted cleaning schedules and "clean as you go" practices
- Promote and enforce safe, sanitary food handling practices among staff
- Assist the Executive Chef by providing feedback on staff performance and promotion readiness
- Report incomplete work, performance concerns, or conflicts to the Food Service Director
- Secure and lock the kitchen and follow department closing procedures
- Complete required documentation, including HACCP logs, production sheets, prep & pull sheets, temperature logs, and sanitizer logs
- Perform additional duties and attend meetings as assigned by supervisors
Position Requirements
Education & Experience
- High school diploma or equivalent preferred
- Current ServeSafe certification required
- Preferred minimum of 2–3 years of cooking experience
- Prior experience leading or supervising kitchen staff
- Genuine interest in food preparation and culinary operations
- Ability to read, write, and comprehend English
- Strong written, verbal, analytical, and interpersonal skills
- Basic knowledge of MS Office and office equipment
- Ability to work scheduled hours based on operational needs
Physical Requirements
- Standing approximately 96% of the workday
- Frequent bending, stooping, reaching, twisting, and stretching
- Repetitive movements throughout the day
- Push/pull carts with supplies up to 25% of the shift
- Ability to lift at least 40 pounds
- Must be able to see and hear (with or without assistive devices) to safely perform job duties
