Description
Merom Generating Station is a 2-Unit, 1080-MW rated coal-fired power plant.
The Reliability Engineer is responsible for the technical / engineering oversight of the Station Reliability Program at the coal fired power generation station.
The electrical and mechanical aspects of rotating equipment and associated systems will be the primary responsibility while working knowledge of other systems and power plant principles will be expected.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
The individual will have a critical role in the safe, reliable, and efficient operation of the generating station and supporting systems and will participate in the Station Safety Programs and councils as requested.
Candidate must have experience with rotating equipment, fluid dynamics, heat transfer, thermal performance, and, in general, understand Thermal Power Generation systems.
Candidate will conduct investigations and lead resolution of plant equipment operational or mechanical issues, equipment upgrades or modifications, development of new projects and project management, budget development and cost control.
Administrative groups in utilization of the station Work Management Process and Compliance tools to maintain equipment reliability and compliance in the area of responsibility.
Develops and maintains the station equipment reliability programProvide 'first line' of support for troubleshooting of emerging rotating equipment issues.
Provide oversight in collection, analysis, and reporting of equipment operating data.
Performs testing and analyzes results to monitor equipment and station performance.
Recommends changes that will lead to improvements in station reliability.
Functions as Subject Matter Expert and core Technical Team member.
Performs failure analysis for equipment within responsibility area.
Consults with other engineers, OEM's, maintenance personnel, and operators to determine equipment characteristics and determine failure modes and corrective actions.
Provides oversight of predictive maintenance services within responsibility area.Develops plans for maintenance, repair, replacement and/or improvement of assigned equipment, systems and processes using predictive maintenance technologies.
Documents issues and actions taken; maintains records, drawings and manuals associated with assigned equipment as required to maintain station reliability.
Assists Operations, Maintenance, and Technical departments in troubleshooting equipment issues when necessary.
Provides project development and oversight as required in area of expertise.
Develop and maintain a station machinery health database and conduct regular meetings with stakeholders.
Attend training to remain current in reliability and predictive maintenance technologies.
Assumes responsibility of the station predictive equipment. Includes thermography, lubrication, vibration, and associated software.
Directly supports annual budget development for labor, contracts, materials, and projects related to station reliability.
Mentors other technical professionals, tradespeople, and management in reliability centered maintenance practices

Required Qualifications and Skills:
BS/B.E. degree in Engineering with 5 years industrial plant experience or 4-year technical degree with 10 years industrial plant experience.
Self-starter with ability to work with limited direct supervision.
Experience with mechanical and electrical equipment found in power plants such as pumps, motors, steam turbines, generators, gearing, breakers, lubrication / cooling systems, instrumentation, diagnostic software, heat exchangers, and valves.
Experience in complex system monitoringAbility to work safely, timely, and within budget.
Knowledge of vibration analysis, thermal performance, fluid dynamics, and heat transfer
Ability to define and perform testing to identify problems, analyze field data, and translate it into useful information to provide technical direction in the repair of mechanical equipment and / or operation improvement of various systems.
Budgeting and expense tracking experiencePossess the following skills:
exceptional leadership, organization, attention to detail, working well under pressure, human relations, strong communication, and time management.
General software knowledge in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, ) and Accounting/Purchasing Software
Knowledge of Root Cause Analysis (RCA) and project management methodologies
Ability to work in a team environment.

Previous leadership experience
Power generation experience
Program management experience
Advanced RCA skills
CRL or CMRP Certification
Asset Condition Management certifications (vibration, ultrasound, infrared imaging, NDT, lubrication, etc.)
Precision machine balancing and alignment experience
Continuous Improvement practitioner
Familiarity with Emerson Ovation control systems, MAXIMO CMMS, and AMS Machinery Manager software
PE license
The work environment combines both office and plant working conditions.
Candidate must be able to wear required personal protection equipment (PPE) such as hard hats, safety glasses, hearing protection, respirators, and fall protection harnesses.
Employee may be required to work around rotating and energized equipment, hazardous materials, and chemicals. The successful candidate must occasionally work outside normal business hours as necessary to support emergent situations and planned outages.
