    What is Job Corps?
    Job Corps is the country's most extensive nationwide residential career training program and has been operating for over 60 years. The program helps eligible young people ages 16 through 24, complete their high school education, trains them for meaningful careers, and assists them with obtaining employment. Job Corps has trained and educated over two million individuals since 1964.

    Oneonta Job Corps
    offers training in the Medical Trades: Certified Nursing Assistant, Certified Medical Assistant, and Medical Administrative Assistant. Automobile trades: Auto Body Collision and Repair and Auto Technology. Construction Trades: Tile Setting, Cement Mason, and Electrical. Advanced Trades: Overhead Line Electrical, Rural Underground Distribution, SMART Meter, and Drone Piloting.

    Position Available: Custodian

    Major Duties and Responsibilities:

    • Performs interior and exterior center janitorial, building maintenance, and greenkeeping assignments.
    • Performs minor building construction tasks.
    • Ensures all equipment and facilities are cleaned and maintained per the center, OSHA, and DOL standards.
    • Stocks supply room with appropriate supplies.
    • Perform general care of plants, trees, and flowers, maintain grounds, and pick up debris.
    • Replaces light bulbs, dusts and sanitizes furniture, empties trash receptacles, sweeps, mops, vacuums, buffs floors, and shampoos carpets.
    • Shovels and removes snow and ice from designated areas such as sidewalks, entryways, and roofs as required. Salts ice on the exterior grounds of the facility.
    • Moves furniture, equipment, or fixtures as required.
    • Set up rooms for meetings, classes, or events.

    Skills & Competencies:

    • Knowledge of standard cleaning procedures, products, chemicals, and equipment.
    • Skilled in the proper use of cleaning products and equipment.
    • Capable of following verbal and written instructions.
    • Ability to read and understand Material Safety Data Sheets, labels, and chemicals.
    • Proficient in using computer software such as Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, etc.
    • Ability to work in a team-based environment.
    • Must be able to lift 50 pounds.

    Educational Requirements & Experiences:

    • High School Diploma, or Equivalent
    • One year of custodial experience, or any equivalent combination of experience and/or education from which comparable knowledge, skills, and abilities have been achieved
    • Valid Driver's License with a clean driving record

    • Sitting, standing, climbing, moving about, or walking for occasional or frequent periods
    • Dexterity of hands and fingers to operate a computer keyboard, as well as other equipment and tools
    • Kneeling, bending at the waist, stooping and reaching overhead
    • Retrieving, and storing files and supplies; occasionally carrying and, or lifting light objects.

    • Exposure to dust, chemicals, cleaning products, temperature variances, and equipment with moving parts.
