Position Highlights

The Arizona Veterinary Diagnostic Laboratory (AzVDL) at the University of Arizona invites applications for on-call histotechologist III position(s). This position is responsible for performing traditional and routine histology techniques. The section sees a diverse workload. The position brings the opportunity to work with our welcoming and inclusive faculty and staff as well as being a part of Research, Innovation & Impact (RII)'s community.

The technician would be responsible for performing histology procedures and tasks, participating in the quality management process and performing a variety of special stains.

The laboratory is one of the original twelve laboratories partnered in the National Animal Health Laboratory Network (NAHLN) and participates in supporting the Cooperative Extension's Arizona Livestock Incident Response Team (ALIRT). ALIRT was designed to enhance the diagnosis of unexplained mortality events in livestock.

• Process tissue samples
• Embedding
• Microtomy
• Staining
• Special stains
• Assists pathologists
• Additional duties may be assigned

Minimum Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent, or equivalent learning attained through experience required and a minimum of 5 years of relevant experience, or equivalent combination of education and work experience.

Preferred Qualifications

• Histotechnologist certification
• 2+ years in a veterinary laboratory
• ASCP certification
