    About The School of The New York Times and Summer Academy

    Highly innovative, The School of The New York Times (The School), a collaboration between The New

    York Times and Cambridge Information Group, provides a comprehensive set of educational offerings for

    pre-college aged students. Drawing on unequaled expertise and unrivaled access, The School provides

    seminal formative experiences, giving students expanded vision and focus, while serving as the

    foundation for success in their future studies and in life itself.

    Held in New York City, Summer Academy (SA) provides students with an immersive environment during

    2-week terms over the course of the summer, in which they learn, investigate, and explore while having

    fun and discovering friends, mentors and instructors who share their passions and interests.

    Essential Duties & Responsibilities

    Program Aides play a crucial role in the academic, residential, and social aspects of the NYC Summer

    Academy at The School, providing supervision of participants for academic and student experiences.

    Program Aides are responsible for supporting Faculty during course sessions, with a break for lunch, in

    addition to occasional evening and/or weekend site visits and activities. Faculty include the Lead

    Instructor and the Instructor in addition to any other specialists, guest speakers or other invitees.

    Responsibilities include:

     Observing necessary precautions and ensuring students' safety and well-being, both on and off campus

    (e.g. site visits, course activities).

     Taking students on excursions to different parts of New York City as required - having a good

    sense of the environment and knowing how to get around will be a critical part of the role.

     Recording attendance and student behavior pastorals.

     Providing notes for Faculty and School staff that will serve as part of the final student evaluation.

     Supporting Faculty-led activities as needed.

     Managing technology and materials for assigned courses - being able to troubleshoot tech

    challenges will be important.

     Handle supply distribution, directions, mail, classroom needs (calling Fordham IT on behalf of

    faculty), boxed lunch distribution, set up zoom in classrooms.

     Other duties as assigned.

    Program Aides will also be responsible for the full range of responsibilities typically associated with

    being a safety in a residential academic program including looking after the physical and mental health

    of the participants and enforcing program rules to ensure that all participants are safe.

    Education, Work Experience and/or Licensure

     Must be legally authorized to work in the United States.

     Previous youth development and/or program support experience, whether at summer camps or

    other residential programs.

     Previous teaching or tutoring experience is desirable as is previous experience working with

    students ages 14–18.

     Three references are required.

    Other Requirements

    As the Program Aides will be working closely with minors, they will need to pass a criminal background

    check and successfully complete all required trainings.

    Schedule

    Summer Academy Dates (excluding weekends):

     Term 1: June 10th - June 20th

     Term 2: June 24th – July 4th

     Term 3: July 8th - July 18th

     Term 4: July 22nd - August 1st

    Hours range from 20 – 40 per week: Monday-Friday (week 1), Monday-Thursday (week 2).
