    Summary

    The Medical Instrument Technician independently performs routine and complex diagnostic and vascular ultrasound imaging studies at TVHS Medical Imaging Service in Nashville and Murfreesboro, Tennessee.

    Duties

  • Performs ultrasound examinations with specialized advanced knowledge and assignments including abdominal, small parts, breast, OB/GYN, imaging guidance for procedures, vascular technology including color and spectral Doppler and duplex exams, ABIs with segmental pressures, upper and lower peripheral arteries, upper and lower venous duplex, extracranial, pseudoaneurysm and other imaging of the abdomen, neck, chest, and extremities, and retroperitoneal space for the purpose of acquiring high quality examinations that assist in the diagnosis and treatment of medical disorders.
  • Responsible for maintaining accurate ultrasound records and worksheets so that recall of follow-up of a of patient examinations may be achieved. This requires maintaining proper record keeping, completion of associated documentation, knowledge of other modalities, skills to review prior imaging abilities and the ability to correlate that information with an ultrasound examination.
  • Makes multiple simultaneous settings and adjustments in operation of equipment to create images that demonstrate pathology of the lack thereof. Also, demonstrates ability to present cases to the interpreting radiologists including exam indication, lab values and prior imaging findings.
  • Reviews new developments in the field and recommends to supervisor those that would improve the operation of the section.
  • Possesses the ability to evaluate new products and equipment, making recommendations concerning developments which would improve operations within section and or service.
  • Maintains adequate supplies so that examinations are not delayed due to the lack of necessary equipment and supplies. Manages functions for forecasting resource and equipment needs.
  • Develops and maintains patient prep procedures so that patients and wards understand the proper preparations for ultrasound examinations in an effort to minimize delays of examinations.
  • Responsible for coordinating assignments with a team to complete assigned work, providing input on performance evaluations participation in interview panels and selection of staff members, making recommendations for awards for members of the ultrasound section.
  • Performs quality assurance testing on the ultrasound unit using phantoms, test tools, and or test check lists, etc. for the purpose of assuring peak performance of the ultrasound equipment. Maintains records of the quality assurance testing so that easy reference is available should servicing be necessary.
  • Performs or supervises routine housekeeping duties to assure that the ultrasound area is clean and sanitary. This is done so that when sterile procedures are required in the ultrasound area, there is minimal possibility of cross contamination due to unsanitary conditions.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
