Job Summary
:
The Program Director of Sports Medicine encompasses three key responsibilities
:
overseeing the educational activities and curriculum development within the Sports Medicine fellowship program, serving as Curriculum Lead for Musculoskeletal within the medical education program, and serving as a facilitator for Teaching Outstanding Physical Skills (TOPS).
Major Responsibilities / Duties / Critical Tasks:Program Director for Sports Medicine:
Perform core administrative duties of a Program Director, including assuring all ACGME accreditation standards are met.
Assume and perform expected duties as a Program Director as specified by the GME office.
Works closely alongside the core faculty to provide a stable, thriving training environment for our fellows and residents.
Prepares and delivers weekly fellowship didactics and periodically for other residency programs.
Participates in regular scholarly activities.
Curriculum Lead for Musculoskeletal:
Design, develop, and update curriculum content for musculoskeletal medicine in Phase 1 of the curriculum, ensuring it meets the current standards of medical education and includes the latest research and clinical practices.
Deliver lectures and practical teaching sessions to students and residents on various aspects of sports medicine and musculoskeletal topics, including anatomy, physiology, injury prevention, diagnosis, treatment, and rehabilitation.
Design and administer assessments to evaluate the knowledge, skills, and competencies of students and residents in musculoskeletal medicine.

Work collaboratively with faculty from other disciplines to integrate musculoskeletal medicine into a broader medical curriculum within our GME programs and participate in interdisciplinary teaching activities.
Serve as an advisor and mentor to students and residents interested in Sports Medicine and Orthopedics, offering career guidance, support with academic challenges, and advice on professional development opportunities in sports medicine.
Participate in community outreach programs and initiatives that promote awareness and education on musculoskeletal health, injury prevention, and the role of sports medicine in overall physical well-being.

Provide facilitation across multiple themes/topics and skills and serve as a facilitator for the small group discussion, feedback, and will contribute to formative and summative assessments.
Collaborate with other clinical and non-clinical faculty for the enhancements of team dynamics and to emphasize healthcare teamwork and interprofessional collaboration.
Aids in the understanding of human behavior and communication.
Along with their co-partner, helps to guide team discussions, provides feedback to the team and individual interviewer(s), demonstrates and maintains a interprofessional and collegial learning environment.

Attend and participate in TOPS Facilitator training sessions and retreats (which occur at the start of and throughout the year), as needed.
Prepare for, attend, and participate in the weekly pre-session facilitator meetings.
·
Routinely teach and model professionalism and ethics.
·
Responsible for helping with clinical skills techniques, training, and feedback.
·
Participate in Mock OSCEs and OSCEs as assigned.

Qualifications
Required Education / Experience:
·
Minimum of one-year fellowship in primary care sports medicine.
·
Board Certified in primary specialty (Family Medicine, PM&R, Internal Medicine, Pediatrics, Med Peds, or Emergency Medicine).
·
Board Certified/ Board Eligible in Primary Care Sports Medicine.
·
Musculoskeletal ultrasound experience/training required.
·
Unrestricted Texas MD or DO license or the ability to obtain an unrestricted license
·
A commitment to excellence in teaching and research.
