    JOB SUMMARY

    The Telemetry Technician provides continual observation and documentation of electrocardiographic patterns of monitored patients. The Technician correctly identifies, interprets, and reports heart rhythms and rates and notifies appropriate personnel of significant changes.

    As a Telemetry Technician, you must be able to deliver superior quality in all that you do. We are seeking a results-driven team player who treat patients as if they were their own family members.

    DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
    • Complete a basic dysrhythmia course with an acceptable score during 1st week of hire.
    • Complete an annual recertification course in basic dysrhythmia with an acceptable score.
    • Provides precise continual surveillance and analysis of cardiac rhythms on electrocardiographic central monitoring station, documenting per established procedure; interprets ECG rhythms, recognizes significant ECG events.
    • Escalates significant or life-threatening changes immediately, utilizing appropriate ECG algorithm, to a Registered Nurse, as appropriate; communicates information in a clear, concise and accurate manner to the responsible individual within established timeframe.
    • Obtains rhythm strips per hospital cardiac telemetry procedure; operates and troubleshoots all functions of the telemetry monitoring system; accounts for all monitors at the end of each assigned shift.
    • Admits, transfers, and discharges patient and enters all required information in telemetry monitoring system.
    • Provides and ensures the highest level of service according to established service standards, optimizing the patient experience.
    • Successfully completes River Oaks Hospital dysrhythmia examination.
    • Accurately document actions taken within patient records.
    • Facilitate orders for monitors and supplies.
    • Other duties assigned.
    Qualifications

    REQUIREMENTS
    • Completion of a Telemetry Monitoring Technician education program or one (1) year of related experience required.
    • Previous telemetry monitoring experience, 1 year of inpatient hospital experience.
    • Current American Heart Association BLS Certification is required.
    EDUCATION
    • High School Diploma (required)
    • AssociatesDegree (preferred)
    CERTIFICATION, LICENSURE
    • Completion of a Telemetry Monitoring Technician education program.
    • Completion of Basic EKG/Arrhythmia course. Demonstrated ability to interpret cardiac rhythms and arrhythmias. Must pass a Basic Rhythm test during if interviewed.
    • Current American Heart Association BLS Certification is required.
    KNOWLEDGE SKILLS & ABILITIES
    • Knowledge of ECG rhythms, as well as knowledge of the monitoring system and the ability to review trends and alarms.
    • Ability to perform duties requiring prolonged and/or extensive sitting, standing, and walking.
    WORKING CONDITIONS
    • Must be able to see (distinguish colors) and hear to meet, if necessary, the job requirements.
    • Must be able to use hands to finger, handle, or touch objects, tools or controls, including a computer keyboard, for up to 10 hours per day.
    • Must be able to stand and/or bend for up to 4 hours per day.
    • Must be able to distinguish colors.
