    SUMMARY:


    The Tool and Die Lead Technician will plan and execute new stamping die builds in the ton range utilizing a small team of tool makers and apprentices.

    These dies could range from a single hit manual load unit to a coil fed progressive. This person will also need to work with existing dies and trouble shoot in press problems as needed.

    This person must be able to recognize roadblocks in a new die build and be able to work to close tolerances when required.

    This position will also support repair items, reverse engineering of legacy components and be able serve as a mentor to junior team members.

    This position is a working leadership role, reporting to the Tool and Die Manager.

    ESSENTIAL DUTIES / RESPONSIBILITIES:

    • Plan and coordinate new die and tooling builds.
    • Collaborate with tool design to create Bill of Material (BOM) for new builds.
    • Identify press tooling that is obsolete or at end of life cycle in order to plan remaking the die
    • Ability to troubleshoot and diagnose in press stamping problems
    • Identify design improvement opportunities to existing dies.
    • Direct work assigns and participate in the review process of your team
    • Support die setters in set up and new tooling tryout
    • Train new tool makers and/or apprentices on correct trade standards.
    • Able to operate tool room equipment as needed for new tooling and repair items
    • Comply with all operating procedures, instructions, and safety rules.
    • Communicate effectively and serve as the subject matter for tooling and die issues.
    • Recognize and report all quality issues as required.
    • Performs other duties as assigned by supervision

    EDUCATION, WORK EXPERIENCE, ANDPROFICIENCIES:


    High school diploma or GED.Completion of Tool and Die Apprenticeship, 2 year Associates Degree or 10 or more years in toolmaking, die repair or combination of schooling and experience.

    Extensive tool and die knowledge in progressive and single hit dies.

    Familiarity with tool room process flow and project deadlinesAbility to reverse engineer detail components without part printsUnderstands heat treatment, tool steel selections and basic metallurgy.

    Ability to read and interpret design blueprints.
    Strong attention to detail and in press troubleshooting.
    Ability to work independently or team environment.
    Ability to stand for extended periods.
    Ability to lift heavy objects.
    Ability to work after-hours if required.


    PHYSICAL DEMANDS:


    The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.

    While performing the duties of this job, the employee is encountered with repetitive movement tasks, which requires the employee to stand, walk, stoop, bend, reach, grasp, push and pull grating material of various size and weights for long periods of time.

    Must regularly lift or move up to 50 pounds and occasionally lift or move up to 75 pounds, using proper lifting techniques, help from another employee or other available resources such as lifting or moving equipment.


    WORK ENVIRONMENT:


    The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job.

    While performing the essential duties of this job the employee is regularly working on the production floor. The work environment requires the use of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE). Exposure to noise, dust, heat and cold on a regular basis. Exposure to machine and tool hazards requiring care and attention to safety rules and standards.
