    Job Description

    The Resident Medical Doctor participates in a three-year residency training program affiliated with Centra and the University of Virginia.

    Residents are credentialed by the Centra Medical Staff Office and possess temporary privileges as the Virginia Baptist Hospital and Lynchburg General Hospital.

    Each Resident has a faculty advisor and is under the direct supervision of the Residency Program Director. Residents diagnose, treat and help prevent diseases and injuries at the Lynchburg Family Medicine Residency practice under supervision.


    Responsibilities

    Provides primary medical care to a panel of outpatients, including prescribing and administering treatment and medication

    Orders, performs and interprets tests and analyzes records, reports, and examination information to diagnose patients' condition


    Collects, records and maintains patient information, medical history, reports and examination results in electronic medical record system; completes chart dictations per policy.

    Maintains a log record of all procedures, hospital patients, home and nursing home visits

    Monitors patients' conditions and progress and reevaluates treatments as necessary

    Explains procedures and discusses test results or prescribed treatments with patients

    Presents material at conferences or seminars

    Provides coaching, mentorship, and instruction to junior Residents and other learners in a clinical setting

    Participates in curricula development through the efforts of standing committees

    Follows and completes all outlined parameters and expectations of the LFMR program and meets scheduled due dates

    May perform other duties as assigned or requested and job specification can be modified or updated at any time


    Qualifications

    Required Education:
    Graduation from an accredited medical school, scores of at least eighty (80) on the United States Medical Licensing Examination (USMLE) Step I and Step II exams on the first attempt

    Required Certifications and Licensures:

    Educational Commission for Foreign Medical Graduates (ECFMG) Certification, if applicable, Post Graduate Year (PGY) (1st year) ability to obtain a temporary training license from the Commonwealth of Virginia; Basic Live Support (BLS), Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS), Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP), Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS), and Advanced Life Support in Obstetrics (ALSO)PGY (2nd year).

    Ability to obtain a permanent medical license from the Commonwealth of Virginia at the end of twenty-four (24) months of post-graduate education.

    If moonlighting activity is practiced, ability to obtain a personal Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) license
