    SUMMARY:

    We are currently seeking a Point of Care Coordinator (Medical Technologist Specialist) to join our Point of Care Lab team. This part time role will work 64 hours within a two week pay period – weekdays only – on days (either 7:30 AM – 4:00 PM OR 8:00 AM – 4:30 PM).

    Purpose of this position: Under general supervision, performs clinical laboratory testing of moderate to highly complex testing. Uses automated equipment and specialized processes for testing and accurately interpreting the results of blood and bodily fluids that are submitted to the laboratory being able to identify abnormal results

    RESPONSIBILITIES:

    • Follows all laboratory established procedures and processes, including but not limited to patient identification, specimen collection, diagnostic clinical testing, and documentation and data entry into the laboratory information system and /or patient result logs
    • Based on training and protocol recognize, document, and communicate unusual and/or critical result values
    • Performs and monitors quality control processes, establish and monitor quality assurance and record keeping systems, participates in quality improvement programs, according the standard operating procedures to assure accuracy and validity of test results
    • Performs calibration, maintenance, and performance checks on instrumentation according to standard operating procedures and participates in the preparation and evaluation of maintenance schedules and operating procedures for new instrumentation, including writing technical procedures according to regulatory protocol
    • Performs troubleshooting processes for instrumentation, reagents, and inventory and/or patient samples as they occur and evaluates methods for solutions
    • Assists in the training/teaching of new staff members and/or student interns
    • Assists supervisor/team lead in operational department activities, including but not limited to scheduling, evaluation of new technologies, administration of QC programs, research and /or development projectsssists in the training/teaching of new staff members and/or student interns

    In addition to the duties above, Medical Technology Specialists perform the following additional duties in specialized areas:

    Point of Care:

    • Function as a technical liaison to the Point of Care area
    • Organize and facilitate training and competency assessment programs for point of care testing (POCT) personnel
    • Monitor compliance of testing areas
    • Coordinate proficiency testing program with POCT areas
