Big Country Elementary - Plan a program of study that meets the individual needs, interests, and abilities of students.
- Collaborate with students, parents, and other members of staff to develop IEP through the ARD Committee process for each student assigned.
- Initiate and conduct ARD meetings.
- Employ a variety of instructional techniques and instructional media consistent with the physical limitations of the location provided, and the needs and capabilities of the individuals or student groups involved.
- Manage student behavior and administer discipline. This includes intervening in crisis situations and physically restraining students as necessary according to IEP using crisis prevention intervention techniques.
- Seek the assistance of district specialists as required.
- Provide or supervise personal care, medical care, and feeding of students as stated in IEP.
- Plan and supervise assignments for teacher aide(s) as assigned.
- Conduct ongoing assessments of student achievement through formal and informal testing.
- Assume responsibility for extracurricular activities as assigned. Sponsor outside activities approved by campus principal including Special Olympics.
- Consult district and outside resource people regarding education. social, medical, and personal needs of students.
- Maintain accurate and complete records as required by law, district policy, and administrative regulations.
- Establish and maintain open communication by conducting conferences with parents, students, principals, and teachers.
- Use effective communication skills to present information accurately and clearly.
- Participate in staff development to improve job-related skills.
- Follow student IEPs.
- Develop student IEPs.
- Attend ARD meetings.
- Work with general education teachers on how to best instruct special education students.
- Attend Crisis Prevention Intervention training (CPI).
- Attend and participate in faculty meetings and serve on staff committees as required.
- Participate in staff development activities to improve job-related skills.
- Daily attendance and punctuality are essential functions of the job.

Primary Purpose:
Provide special education students with learning activities and experiences designed to help them fulfill their potential for intellectual,
emotional, physical, and social growth. Develop or modify curricula and prepare lessons and other instructional materials to student ability levels.
Qualifications:
Education/Certification:Bachelor's degree from an accredited university
Valid Texas teaching certificate with required endorsements or required training for subject and level
Assigned
Candidate must have satisfactory outcome of fingerprinting check
Special Knowledge/Skills:
Knowledge of special needs of students in assigned area
Knowledge of special needs of students in assigned area
Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships
Ability to carry out duties according to district requirements/policies, and federal guidelines
Maintain confidentiality
Demonstrated competency in the core academic subject area(s)
General knowledge of curriculum and instruction
Ability to instruct students and manage their behavior
Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills
Experience:
Experience working with children
Student teaching, clinical teaching, teacher residency (preferred)
