    The Executive Medical Director, Global Pathology Solutions will serve key roles in a growing Medical and Scientific Affairs function that provides leadership on medical, scientific, and clinical decisions related to the overall Leica Biosystems business strategy.

    The Executive Medical Director, Global Pathology Solutions will support the development and execution of the Medical and Scientific Affairs functional strategy.

    Medical and Scientific Affairs serves a critical internal leadership and customer-facing support role, including pre- and post-market partnership to functions such as product management, sales and marketing, R&D, Clinical Affairs, Regulatory Affairs, Quality Assurance, Innovation, Strategy, Pharmaceutical Partnerships (Companion Diagnostics), and Technical Support.

    The Executive Medical Director, Global Pathology Solutions is expected to provide pathology input to cross-functional and/or complex projects and tasks on global and/or local level.

    In addition, the Executive Medical Director, Global Pathology Solutions will engage internal and external stakeholders on a wide variety of clinical, medical and scientific discussions.

    In this role, you will have the opportunity to:
    + Partner cross-functionally to collect, evaluate and communicate key clinical, medical and scientific data to support R&D projects, regulatory strategy, compliance-related tasks, and commercial projects across all business areas and across the product lifecycle. + Provide strategic insight and tactical direction to support new product development and innovation opportunities, actively participating in prioritization of opportunities based on clinical value and strong medical understanding of physician and patient needs. + Support pharma partnerships (companion diagnostics), clinical evidence generation partnerships, and strategic growth efforts through collaboration with internal teams and cultivation of relationships in pathology practice (academic and community) and biopharma. + Provide internal and external education and expertise to support product innovation and market adoption of best practices and new technologies in a variety of settings, including conferences, webinars, and site visits. + Develop collaborative relationships with medical scientific institutions and participate in professional associations to enhance standardization, evidence generation and support product adoption and appropriate use. + Support the sales team in peer-to-peer interactions with actual and potential customers by providing medical and technical information, in accordance with applicable regulations and standards. + Provide medical insight to the development of design specifications; medical expertise to regulatory submissions; participation in meetings with regulators (e.g. FDA); review of marketing and promotional materials. + Provide medical expertise input to device risk analyses, health hazard evaluations (HHE), adverse event review, and risk/benefit reporting. + Play an integral role in building LBS's brand as a thought leader; actively participate in planning and provision of training for external medical/scientific speakers and members of product sales teams. Required Skills/Experience + M.D. degree + American Board of Pathology certification in Anatomic Pathology (AP) + >5 years of experience in diagnostics, laboratory, biopharma, medical device, or related industry. + Experience in the development and clearance/approval of in vitro diagnostic products including interactions with regulatory agencies including the FDA + History of planning medical advisory boards, managing relationships with external experts, and developing research collaborations. + Experience in the development of evidence to support adoption and use of clinical diagnostic products through research studies and publications. + Experience in management of individuals with advanced training including MDs and/or PhDs. Preferred Skills/Experience + MS or PhD in a scientific discipline with advanced scientific training and experience, with track record of quality publications. + Board Certification in Clinical Pathology (CP) and/or additional training in pathology subspecialty such as molecular genetic pathology, hematopathology, or clinical informatics; other organ-specific anatomic pathology specialty training in area such as GI, GU, or breast. + Experience in computational pathology and clinical informatics, machine learning, and artificial intelligence as applied to digital pathology research and practice. + Experience with risk management / safety assessment in medical device or biopharmaceutical industry. + Experience with product development and/or business development and strategy in medical device or biopharmaceutical industry.
