    The Opportunity

    We're seeking a dynamic and growth-minded leader to join us in the role of Tax Director to ensure compliance with state federal and international tax law through a series of systems and system controls that are designed to ensure accurate, timely reporting. They will monitor current and impending changes to tax regulation and make the appropriate updates to policies and strategies. The ideal candidate is single minded in their pursuit of ensuring compliance and achieves this goal through optimizing reporting procedures and driving the successful function of the tax team.

    About This Role at Momentum

    As a Tax Director on our Accounting team at Momentum, your days will be dynamic and filled with opportunities to contribute to our mission. Here's a glimpse into what your overall responsibilities might look like:

    Department Leadership:

    • Establishing tax department, setting strategic direction and operational processes.
    • Ensuring compliance with federal, state, and international tax laws and regulations.
    • Finding and implementing opportunities for process improvement in company tax procedures.

    Tax Compliance and Reporting:

    • Overseeing the preparation and filing of all federal returns, state and local tax returns, and other business related filings.
    • Monitoring legislative and regulatory tax law developments, communicating relevant changes to management.
    • Managing the quarterly and annual tax provision process, including the effective tax rate, tax balances, and tax disclosures in the financial statements.
    • Maintaining effective control procedures over all aspects of the tax process.
    • Providing support with various internal audits and special tax related projects.

    Acquisitions Support:

    • Leading tax due diligence for mergers and acquisitions to identify tax opportunities and risks.
    • Developing and implementing tax-efficient structures for acquisitions.
    • Collaborating with cross-functional teams to integrate tax planning and compliance into the broader acquisition strategy.

    Tracking Mechanisms and Systems:

    • Developing and implementing robust tracking mechanisms for tax positions, credits, and incentives across all business units.
    • Ensuring accurate and timely reporting of all tax-related activities and compliance.
    • Developing and implementing strategic tax planning for all necessary federal and state taxes.

    Utilization of Outsourced Specialty Services:

    • Identifying needs for outsourced tax services and managing relationships with external tax advisors and specialty service providers.
    • Strategically integrating external expertise to enhance internal capabilities and efficiencies.
    • Evaluating the performance and cost-effectiveness of outsourced services.

    Qualifications

    We're looking for someone who:

    • Holds a Bachelor's degree ideally in business, finance, accounting or a related field. Current CPA license is highly preferred.
    • Possesses a minimum of 10 years experience in a tax or public accountant role.
    • Demonstrates extensive individual/corporate/partnership tax knowledge.
    • Possesses strong knowledge of tax code, compliance and procedures for corporations.
    • Has familiarity with U.S. federal, state and local reporting requirements.
    • Possesses strong experience with a variety of tax operations and ability to drive process improvements.
    • Exemplifies the strong ability to utilize project management and accounting best practices to organize and prioritize tasks and the tasks of other tax team members.
    • Has the ability to work independently as well as the ability to work well with stakeholders and communicate the benefits of tax initiatives.
    • Can handle multiple priorities and work in a fast-paced environment, navigating ambiguity and remaining agile.

    The base salary range for this position may vary based on location. Actual compensation will be determined by role, level, and location, considering additional factors such as job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training. For roles eligible for remote work, the base salary is tailored to the designated work location. In addition to the base salary, candidates may be eligible to receive a discretionary annual bonus, determined based on both the company's business performance and individual contributions.
