    PRIMARY PURPOSE:
    To operate a school bus and related equipment to provide safe and orderly transportation of students and other authorized persons on assigned routes and to and from other designated locations.

    QUALIFICATIONS:
    EDUCATION:
    High School Diploma or G.E.D.
    Clear and valid Texas Driver's License
    Must be at least 21 years of age

    SPECIAL KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS:
    Ability to train to operate a school bus
    Ability to complete required bus driver safety training
    Professional radio communication skills
    Ability to read and understand documents including policies and procedures manuals
    Ability to read maps/ interpret directions for route assigned
    Ability to follow written and verbal instructions
    Ability to pass U.S. Department of Transportation alcohol and drug tests and annual
    physical exam
    Ability to manage student behavior

    EXPERIENCE:
    Prior experience as a certified school bus driver is desired

    MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES:
    1. Train to drive a bus daily following assigned route and adhering to established schedules.
    2. Anticipate problems such as traffic, weather, road conditions, and schedule changes and make necessary adjustments to ensure student safety and reduce delays.
    3. Follow the assigned bus route as directed.
    4. Perform pre-trip inspections according to specifications to ensure the bus can be operated safely.
    5. Display professionalism in dealing with students, parents, staff, and the community.
    6. Approach problem-solving tactfully with directness and integrity.
    7. Exerts a positive influence and works in harmony with associates.
    8. Respond to suggestions for improvement in a positive manner.
    9. Report all accidents, vehicle damage, student injuries, and mechanical problem.

    11. Mentally and physically able to perform job functions.
    12. Manifest support for and compliance with the philosophy, objectives, policies, and procedures of Garland ISD.
    13. Follows district policies pertaining to individual assignments.
    14. Seek professional growth through continuing education and staff development.
    15. Be consistent in route departure/arrival time at designated bus stops.
    16. Exercise responsible leadership when transporting school children.
    17. Maintain discipline and use effective behavior management control over groups of students.
    18. Report student discipline problems to the appropriate administrator.
    19. Observe all traffic laws and safety regulations for school buses.
    20. Keep the assigned bus clean at all times.
    21. Perform other duties as assigned.

    EVALUATION:
