- Assist the Captain in navigating the tug in barge operation.
- Assume watchkeeping duties to ensure continuous monitoring of the vessel's position, course, and speed.
- Crew Supervision:
- Supervise and coordinate the activities of deckhands and other crew members.
- Provide guidance and training to ensure the crew's understanding of safety protocols and operational procedures.
- Implement and enforce safety procedures and protocols in collaboration with the Captain.
- Assist in conducting regular safety drills and ensure crew readiness for emergency situations.
- Oversee cargo handling operations, including loading, and unloading procedures.
- Ensure proper stowage and securing of cargo to maintain stability during transit.
- Maintain clear and effective communication with the Captain, crew members, and onshore management.
- Handle radio communication and navigation equipment proficiently.
- Collaborate with the engineering team to monitor and address maintenance needs.
- Conduct routine inspections of equipment and report any issues to the Captain.
- Maintain accurate records of navigational activities, crew duties, and safety-related documentation.
- Assist in the preparation of voyage reports and other required paperwork.
- Current Mate's License (Mate of Towing, if applicable).
- Relevant endorsements for ATB operations are advantageous.
- Current Medical Certificate
- LG Tankerman preferred.
- LG Tankerman Assistant preferred.
- Valid passport
- Valid TWIC
- Ability to work safely and navigate in a marine setting; walk, sit, or stand for extended periods of time; frequently reach with hands and arms; frequently crouch or stoop; climb/descend stairs and ladders; occasionally lift and/or carry up to 60 pounds; occasionally enter and work in confined spaces; travel a minimum of 50% of the year; withstand exposure to environmental conditions such as heat, rain, cold and or/humidity
- Minimum of 5 years of experience as a mate on vessels, with experience in ATB operations preferred.
- Familiarity with ATB technology and systems.
