    This position is located at Alexander Correctional Institution in Alexander County, NC. Alexander Correctional Institution is a close/minimum custody male facility.

    Reporting to the HVAC Supervisor, this position has responsibilities include the following:
    Provide journey level work in the areas of Heating/Air Conditioning and Refrigeration. Design, install, service and repair HVAC energy control management systems in renovations and construction. Assist in installing electrical conduit and wiring for HVAC electricals circuit. Perform preventive maintenance. Instruct lower-level assistants and offenders in performing less technical repair. Provide technical guidance and support to other staff members in HVAC energy control management. Work by instruction from supervisor, by policies, the NC building code manuals, OSHA regulations, and safety policies. Require great physical effort in the installation, repair and removal of HVAC systems. May work with close custody and minimum custody offender and have frequent contact with offender. Will be required, at times, to perform repairs on equipment's outside his/her specialty. Must be diversified and have general knowledge of several trades.

    The salary grade for this position is NC08.

    If selected for this position, a new salary will be recalculated taking into consideration the quantity of relevant education and experience, funding availability, and internal equity.

    Based upon these factors, a pay increase MAY result.

    About the Department of Adult Correction (DAC):


    The North Carolina Department of Adult Correction is responsible for the care, custody, and supervision of all adults sentenced after conviction for violating North Carolina laws.

    This department includes State Prisons, Correction Enterprises, the Division of Community Supervision, and the Division of Rehabilitation & Reentry.

    High school or General Educational Development (GED) diploma and three years of progressive experience in the installation, maintenance or repair of air conditioning chillers, air handling, chilled water distribution and control systems; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

    Necessary Special Qualifications Requires current certification by the Environmental Protection Agency as a Type I, II, III or Universal technician as required by Title 40, Code of Federal Regulations part 82, subpart F.
