    The Nurse Practitioner examines and treats patients independently and in autonomous collaboration with other health care professionals following established standards and practices. Ensures proper illness and injury care and disease prevention, diagnosis, treatment, and recovery. Relies on education, experience, professional training and judgement to accomplish responsibilities. A wide degree of creativity and latitude is expected. Works under minimal supervision under the direction of the collaborating physician, as appropriate. May lead and direct the work of others within scope of practice.

    1- Patient Care: This will have been satisfactorily performed when...
    • Patient assessment and teaching and learning needs are accurately documented, detailed nursing history is obtained, and patients at physiologic and or psychological risk are identified as evidenced by physical assessments of patients that identify priority care needs.
    • Diagnosis is appropriately formulated with pertinent therapeutic and diagnostic procedures ordered at all times as evidenced by necessary procedures that are performed to implement plan of care based on care standards and, or protocols.
    • Treatment plan is implemented with consults and referrals with interdisciplinary team regarding patient assessment findings conducted as appropriate at all times.
    • Plan of care is reassessed, revised and modified based on physiological and psychosocial findings as evidenced by documention in the treatment plan. Patient plan of care is reviewed with interdisciplinary team at all times.
    • Tests and consults are ordered as required by plan of care, reviews test results 100% of the time. Plan of care is discussed with patient and family at all times as evidenced by documentation.
    • Education is provided to patients based upon identified risk factors as evidenced by patient education programs that are developed, revised and evaluated based on the effectiveness of learning.
    2- Partnership and Collaboration: This will have been satisfactorily performed when...
    • All patient care activities are accurately documented as per documentation standards as evidenced by documentation of age appropriate, health education and community resource utilization being noted in records. Outcomes of documentation are evaluated and contributes to performance improvement initiatives through medical record review.
    • Multidisciplinary teams are utilized appropriately as evidenced by collaboration with the interdisciplinary team and incorporation of the expertise of the interdisciplinary team to achieve patient outcomes 100% of the time.
    • Students are precepted in accordance to specified guidelines.
    • Patient care activities are efficiently coordinated, and communication facilitated to maximize patient outcomes at all times and ensure continuity of care.
    • As a primary resource to patient care team, identifies, provides, develops and maintains learning resources for patient care team as requested.
    3- Quality: This will have been satisfactorily performed when...
    • Patient documentation is accurate and legible based on focused chart reviews 100% of the time.
      Safe therapeutic care is provided in holistic and systematic way to facilitate patients achievement of desired outcomes at all times.
    • Trends in patient populations are recognized, alternatives to care are explored and assistance is provided in the revision of standards, guidelines and or protocols as needed.
    • Participation in clinical research is provided and current nursing research literature is reviewed as evidenced by demonstrated application to clinical practice.
    • Practices that contribute to variance are analyzed, conclusions are drawn from aggregate data, resources to assist in variance analysis are identified and assistance with drawing conclusions from aggregate data is provided as evidenced by improved performance evidenced by outcomes.
    • Assistance is provided in the development and revision of standards for patient populations incorporating a interdisciplinary approach and utilizing best practices and research findings.

    • Actively participates in hospital committees and other quality improvement activities as requested by manager.
    Qualifications
    • A graduate of an approved professional school of nursing. Completion of State Board of Nursing approved Nurse Practitioner course and licensed to practice professional nursing as a Nurse Practitioner.
    • Certified in the State of Mississippi by the Mississippi State Board of Nursing and the American Nurses Credentialing Center as a Nurse Practitioner.
    • Current BLS Certification
