    At CoBank, the Senior Tax Associate, Special Projects develops and participates in various key tax initiatives. Collaborates with the income, sales and property tax teams to accomplish one-off projects which support the Company's strategic focus. Assists in preparing complex lease portfolio analyses, providing research, communications and other support to the indirect tax team as well as CoBank / Farm Credit Leasing (FCL) operations, relationship managers and leasing team members. This position requires an understanding of tax regulations for both income and indirect taxes, familiarity with implementing tax technology, strong research skills, strong attention to detail and the ability to work closely with internal and external stakeholders.


    Essential Functions

    • Assist with special projects that span the tax function, including sales tax, property tax and income tax. Be the project lead for multiple initiatives of importance to generate tax savings and create new opportunities and efficiencies within the Company.
    • Communicate project updates to key participants and leadership to ensure all stakeholders are engaged, aware of developing issues and project progress.
    • Get buy-in from various groups in order to develop and complete projects.
    • Develop, implement and maintain user-friendly interface for sales and property tax reference materials.
    • Assist in indirect tax compliance as needed.
    • Research and document state and local tax credits. Assist Income Tax team with implementation of programs to manage, apply for and retain available credits.
    • Research and write tax technical memos on both income and indirect tax matters.
    • Manage multiple initiatives, identify and prioritize issues to meet timelines and organizational goals.
    • Assist the Manager, Tax Systems in one-off projects, including testing and updating data flows, supporting IT initiatives and problem-solving systems issues.
    • Assist Indirect Tax team in responding to internal and external stakeholder questions.
    • Acts as back-up for various tax roles, as required.

    Education:

    • Bachelor's degree required

    Work Experience:

    • 6 years of relevant experience in income, sales, and property tax

    Preferred Qualifications:

    • Master's degree and/or Certified Public Accountant (CPA) license preferred.
    • Familiarity with tax credits for income and indirect taxes.
    • Background in state sales and property tax laws and application, including an understanding of sales and property tax compliance for lease portfolios, preferred.
    • Knowledge of indirect tax software (PTMS and Vertex O) and data management tools (ex. Tableau / Alteryx, SharePoint) preferred.
    • Strong written and verbal communication skills and the ability to translate tax research into user friendly guidance.
    • Proven ability to use tax research tools (BNA and/or Checkpoint).
    • Exceptional organizational and time management skills with the ability to navigate peaks, prioritize competing commitments, and complete assignments in accordance with established deadlines.
    • Ability to work collaboratively and build and maintain effective working relationships with all levels of associates and management.
    • Demonstrated decision making ability.
    • Excellent attention to detail and customer service orientation.
    • Strong knowledge of Microsoft Office applications (Outlook, Word, PowerPoint), particular expertise in Excel required.


    Compensation Information

    • Estimated Base Salary Range: $ 86,961-$120,919
    • Short Term Incentive Bonus: 10%
