    Description
    Job Summary
    The Dean is supervised by the Assistant Vice President of Academic Affairs, is responsible for the
    leadership and administration of the instructional programs within the assigned area and works with
    faculty, deans, directors, AVPAA and VPAA as part of the academic management team.

    Essential Functions

    Supervision


    • Supervises personnel per the organizational structure of the college to include the associate
    dean, instructional coordinator, program specialist and programassistant.


    • Mentors and provides succession planning for division.
    • Completes performance management evaluations of assigned personnel.
    • Monitors and approves leave and staff development.
    • Has final approval of performance evaluations for all staff/faculty within the respective
    division.


    • Documents, prepares and executes Positive Discipline with input from the Associate Dean,
    AVPAA, VPAA and HR within division when necessary.


    • Administers divisional program budgets. With input from the associate deans, coordinates the
    annual instructional budget submissions and is responsible for monitoring program instructional
    budgets. Approves EPVs and P-Card purchases for division.
    Support of Students


    • Coordinates the student grade appeal process by gathering documentation from all parties and
    rendering a decision.


    • Evaluates the need for independent study courses on a per student basis and initiates
    process.


    • May mediate issues between students and faculty.
    General Support of Division/Campus


    • Participates in interview panels for full time instructors and as requested for academic
    leadership.


    • Works with AVP of Academic Affairs and Human Resources to verify appropriate faculty
    qualifications. Reviews and approves FQR prior to submission.


    • Attends divisional advisory committee meetings to serve as a liaison between the college and
    business and industry. Shares college policies and procedures where applicable, listens to the
    needs of business and industry and shares them with AA leadership. Ensures documentation
    of all activities is posted to KnightShare in a timely manner.


    • Works with college's web master to ensure that divisional web page(s) is accurate and up-to date.
    • Participates in registration and advisement process.
    • Demonstrates a willingness to be of service to assist students, coworkers and the general
    public with questions, concerns, processes in a pleasant and professional manner.
    Curriculum/Technology/Classroom Management/Learning Outcomes


    • Routinely circulates throughout the classrooms and laboratories in order to ascertain the
    effectiveness of programs and instructors; works with the Assistant Vice President for
    Academic Affairs to recommend changes.


    • With input from program chairs/directors and faculty, works with Executive Director for
    Curriculum to recommend, develop, and revise program curricula and evaluate transfer credit.


    • Updates AA leadership as needed on changes/revision to programs. Identifies and evaluates
    new program areas within the respective division and shares with AA leadership.


    • Initiates new program request. Prepares teach-put plans for any program requiring termination.
    • Coordinates with appropriate faculty/staff to facilitate the processes of program articulation,
    accreditation, and/or certification.


    • Maintains up-to-date policies, procedures, and state or federal laws that may impact
    department initiatives.


    • Reviews student perceptions/course evaluations by students and takes appropriate action
    when necessary.


    • Assists division Program Chairs/Directors in the coordination of yearly program course
    rotations/schedules.


    • Assists faculty in addressing all aspects of verifying program and student learning outcomes
    including identification, review, revision, measurement and analysis.


    • Coordinates with program chairs/directors to ensure program entries are input in manuals,
    catalog and website and that all information is current and correct.


    • Coordinates the related program book order process for the respective division.
    Scheduling/Data/Reporting


    • Coordinates and directs the division course schedule. Monitors the schedule for adjustments
    based on enrollment. Monitors schedule daily during returning/new student registration and
    adjusts based on enrollment and faculty load.


    • Compiles program statistics to include enrollment, retention rates, graduation rates and
    licensure rates where applicable.


    • Reviews Student Learning Outcome data per program for improvements and
    benchmarking.

    Work Environment
    This job operates in a professional office environment. This role routinely uses standard office
    equipment and technologies.

    Physical Demands
    The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to
    successfully perform the essential functions of this job.
    While performing the duties of this job, the employee is occasionally required to stand; walk; sit; use
    hands to finger, handle or feel objects, tools or controls; reach with hands and arms; climb stairs; talk
    or hear. The employee must occasionally lift or move office products and supplies, up to 25 pounds.

    Position Type/Expected Hours of Work
    This is a full-time administrative position. Work load is Monday-Friday with possible evening and
    weekends based on necessity. Expected to monitor correspondence, follow-up and work as needed at
    various times dependent upon collegiate administrative needs.

    Travel
    Travel to other campuses regularly. Overnight travel required for training, meetings and professional
    development.

    Required Education and Experience


    • Master's degree (preferably in a related field of study)
    *AND*•Three (3) years of related work experience
    *AND*•Supervisory experience in post-secondary

    Preferred Education and Experience


    • Master's degree in course of study related to one of the occupational fields listed within the
    specific division as applicable.


    • Five years of in-field work experience within the past seven years.
    • Minimum of five years of direct supervision or management experience
    • Familiar with Microsoft Office, Banner, Knowledge Management Systems (KMS) and Blackboard
    • Knowledge of the mission of postsecondary vocational/technical education
    • Knowledge of program assessment and strategic planning strategies
    • Knowledge of budget development and management principles
    • Knowledge of state and local academic program curricula
    • Knowledge of academic course standards
    • Skilled in the delegation of responsibility and authority, interpersonal relations and decision making
    and problem-solving skills
