Job Summary

As a Merchandising Category Analyst, you will provide quality analytical support to the Merchandising Strategy Team with respect to customer insights, category strategy development, cross-category and customer-centric analysis and other activities on an ad-hoc basis. Leveraging both internal and third-party data sources, you will collaborate with the Merchandising Strategy Team on the development and continued refinement of customer-centric and store segment strategies, charged not just with delivering insights, but bridging the insights to actions gap through interpretation of available data and facts. Along with a cross-functional team, you will be integral to the development and presentation of customer-centric category reviews. You will also model, measure, and create recurring reporting framework for strategic tests and assist the Merchandising Strategy and Merchandising Execution teams with interpretation of results.

Please note this is NOT an entry level data scientist or data analyst role, this position requires a minimum of 1 to 3 years category analysis experience in either the retail merchandising or consumer packaged goods industries.

This is a hyriid work model position requiring on site work at our Cranberry Township HQ 3 days per week, (Tuesday, Wed. and Thursdays

Key Competencies:

• Experience Required: 1 to 3 years retail merchandising category analysis experience
• Experience Desired: Forecasting, planning, or information technology.
• Familiarity with one or more analytical environments.
• Experience with third party data providers (Nielsen/Circana), PowerBI, category management, or retail operations experience is a plus.
• Experience with reporting and data warehouse systems is a plus.
• Basic ability to understand SQL queries a plus.
• Education Required: Bachelors Degree in Business, Analytics, Finance, Math, Computer Science, or related field

Job Responsibilities

• Develop category and customer insights using loyalty card data, pricing, promotions, market share, and internal reporting tools to prepare analytics for the Merchandising Strategy Team during formal strategy development sessions as well as on an ongoing basis
• Conduct in-depth analysis of sales data, market trends, competitive landscape, and customer preferences to identify opportunities and risks.
• Provide analytics to the Merchandising Planning Strategy Manager as they develop customer-centric merchandising strategies and recommendations for key Merchandising stakeholders
• Monitor customer trends against desired outputs, developing and providing key reporting to the Merchandising Strategy Team on a regular basis.
• Develop in-depth knowledge of customer types and strategies. Seek out data-indicated opportunities for the Team to act upon to both drive customer business metrics and improve customer m erchandising strategies.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams to develop integrated business plans to drive revenue growth, enhance customer satisfaction, and achieve business objectives.
• Become an expert user of Giant Eagles data systems and serve as liaison to Giant Eagles IT department or third party servicers where opportunities for enhancement arise. Act as a project manager between our Global Merchandising Planning team leveraging team members inside and outside of the United States to prioritize and manage the flow of work. Serve as both merchant facing analyst, global interpreter and mediator of information that needs relayed on a daily, weekly and monthly basis between joint-analytics teams, Giant Eagle Bengaluru (GEB) team and US-based operations.
