    The ER RN provides direct patient care effectively and efficiently which may include patients with varied and complex needs.

    This position communicates and collaborates with the physicians and the interprofessional health care team to facilitate, coordinate and maintain compassionate, efficient, quality care and achievement of desired treatment outcomes.

    The role encompasses nursing assessment, diagnosis, planning, intervention, evaluation, and coordination of care for patients and their families across the health care continuum.

    The registered nurse is accountable for clinical, educational, quality and fiscal patient care outcomes using the model of care designed by the nursing department and in accordance with established agency policies, procedures, protocols, guidelines and standards of practice.

    DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIESRegistered Nurse
    • Emergency DepartmentCoordinates the planning for the delivery of nursing care with an interdisciplinary team and administers appropriate clinical decisions in the delivery of patient care.

    Collaborates with, directs, and may delegate to the healthcare team in the attainment of positive outcomes based on data, research, evidence, and professional standards of care.

    Assesses and documents normal and abnormal findingsDevelops, coordinates, and evaluates plan of care based on patient/family needs and expected outcomes to the extent that is feasible in an emergency room setting.

    Obtains / interprets information in terms of the patient's needs.
    Understands the range of treatment needs of the patient.

    Demonstrates knowledge and skill in the following:
    hemodynamic monitoring, airway management, dysrhythmia recognition, CPR, body-fluid monitoring.

    Triage and assessment of emergency patients, administration of medications, IV starts and venipuncture to include blood culture collection, urinary catheter insertions, obtaining EKG's, monitoring of patient status, blood administration, procedural sedation.

    Treatment of patients with respiratory distress/failure, code blue, code strokes, code STEMI, traumas, and sepsis.
    Coordinates treatment plans; develops/implements discharge and/or transfer plans.

    Considers the diverse needs of each patient through the entire continuum of care, providing and ensuring the highest level of service according to established service standards, optimizing the patient experience.

    Adheres to all regulatory and Texas Board of Nursing standards.
    Performs other duties as assigned, within scope of practice and clinical competency.
    Nurse to patient ratio of this unit. (nursing only)


    On critical the ratio is 1:2 or occasionally 1:3.QualificationsREQUIREMENTSMinimum (2) years' experience as RN in a hospital / acute care environment1 year of Emergency Care experience at a Trauma Level 1 or 2 facilityOne (1) year of Critical Care experience in ER or ICUBSN, ADNTexas RN license Compact license acceptable according to current Board of Nursing requirements.

    American Heart Association Basic Life Support (BLS), Current ACLS and PALS required, TNCC preferred.
    Any other required certifications pertinent to unitEDUCATIONBSN, ADNCERTIFICATION, LICENSURETexas RN licenseBLS, ACLS, PALS required, TNCC preferred.

    KNOWLEDGE SKILLS & ABILITIESATHENA EMR or SimilarAbility to collaborate with a variety of other healthcare professionals such as social work, care coordination, physical therapy, occupational therapy, lab, respiratory therapy and imaging.

    Knowledge of cardiac monitoring, identifies arrhythmia, and intervenes using ACLS algorithm and physician order.
    Prepare patient for examination or procedure and assist the physician or mid-level provider.

    Maintain accurate and continued nursing documentation including patient history, condition, vital signs, treatment, response to intervention and change of status.

    Treat patient and their family with respect and dignity.
    Function as a liaison for the patient between the physician and other health care providers.
