    Description

    Job Title: English Teacher

    **Position Summary:** Develop and implement effective instruction for the courses you teach, engaging all students in a safe, supportive, and rigorous learning environment. Teachers collaborate with colleagues to create lesson and unit plans that help students meet and exceed proficiency in content standards.

    Key Responsibilities:

    • Develop and submit weekly WAAGS (week-at-a-glance), syllabi, unit plans, and scope and sequence aligned with Common Core and California State curricular standards.
    • Execute student management plans and create culturally relevant, standards-based lesson plans integrating literacy and writing instruction.
    • Differentiate instruction according to varied learning styles and engage actively in morning meetings and professional development sessions.

    Assessment and Reporting:

    • Create and use Formative and Summative Assessments that embed and provide students practice for unit tests, finals, and standardized tests.
    • Manage student and parent engagement plans and design a wide range of performance assessments aligned with lesson plans and California state standards.

    Classroom Management and Communication:

    • Establish and maintain a well-organized classroom environment conducive to learning.
    • Manage classroom behavior using Tier 1 interventions and ensure a respectful atmosphere among students.
    • Enforce school policies and procedures to maintain discipline and safety.

    Additional Responsibilities:

    • Communicate with and build relationships with staff, faculty, students, and their families in the culturally diverse MWA community.
    • Participate in the school community, including attending division-specific professional development sessions, school performances, and extracurricular activities.

    Work Environment:

    This job operates in a classroom environment with standard equipment such as laptops, photocopiers, whiteboards, and Chromebooks.

    Qualifications:

    • Teaching experience is desirable, but related work experience may be considered.
    • Experience working with historically underserved communities and dedication to urban public schools are essential.
    • Skills include designing authentic, culturally relevant lesson plans, adapting to school initiatives, and communicating effectively with students and parents.

    Licenses or Certificates Needed:

    • Employment eligibility includes fingerprints, tuberculosis clearance, and/or other employment clearance.
    • California Commission on Teacher Credentialing Certificate of Clearance (COC) is required or ability to obtain one if not already in possession.
